I have the NAS step and a Mantec. really depends on what you are towing as to whether the NAS step works for you. BigRuss has the safari-equip wheel carrier and bumperettes from a forum sponsor (who'll no doubt be along in a moment).
the safari-equip wheel carrier is a real heavy-duty carrier, great for oversize wheels but does block the rear window somewhat where as the mantec is about the same as standard |

Personally I am not a big fan of NAS steps if you intend to do a reasonable amount of off road or green lane driving as it does degrade departure angle. For access into back, yes it is good.
Wheel carriers, basically readily available in the UK are the Mantec, Safari Equip and Nakatanenga wheel carriers. Others are available such as Kaymar, Pivlock, Britpart, Bearmach and Sonic/Alisport. Mantec wheel carrier will fit with the NAS step Mantec wheel carriers are about £240-280. Personal opinion I prefer the longer brackets of the Safari Equip ones. Safari Equip do he largest range of wheel carriers and you can get them with/without hi lift carriers, powder coated, galvanise or galvanised then powder coated. Must admit I thought the standard Safari Equip wheel carrier did not work with NAS step however looking at this Extreme photo Click image to enlarge That looks like anSE one with the brackets to make the wheel more central. However I will have to check that information out. Standard SE wheel carrier is Click image to enlarge For post 2002 wheel carriers the SE ones start at about £196 for a stanard one for a Defender Neither the Nakatanenga or SE single pivot wheel carriers will fit with the NAS step as they use the same bolt holes For the SE one there is a slightly modified rear bumperette Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The Nakatanenga one It is wise to check the compatability of all after market gear prior to purchase. We try to keep in stock the main Safari and Nakatanenga wheel carriers HTH Brendan The Nakatanenga Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

That's a concise reply brendan thanks.
So the SE single pivot one looks swell. I assume buying their carrier and bumperettes is the best option as it will all fit together with no mods required? Does the picture with the silver '10 plate defender show a single pivot design and require no attachment to the body of the Defender? 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

No modification to the body work however where it is bolted to the cross member some of those holes have to be enlarged so that some anti crush cans can be inserted.
We have one of the SE single pivot wheel carrier in stock. Am not 100% certain if we have a set of their modified rear bumperettes in stock or not. There again it is late on a Sunday night . Brendan |

That's an odd looking one, Brendan. It appears to be mounted above the rear crossmember and you can see that the fog light has been re-positioned to suit. There's clearly more to that than what can be seen in the picture :? Yes we have the Nakatanega glove boxes in stock.
It is amazing how some threads wander away from the original post, just like a pub conversation. Brendan |
