Weird one.
It sounds like it's the EGR acting up. But the BAS remap closes the EGR permanently, so this should not happen when you are on the remap. How long has this been going on, since you've had the car or did it start recently? -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Sorry, probably should have also mentioned it doesn't use any oil its been going on for around 15,000km.
The car has currently done 110,000kms. The first engine was replaced at 30,000kms and was replaced again at 65,000kms. Yep, that's right, having a good run! |

The dtc's you have listed, are they from the alientech remap interface or a diagnostic tool?
These three dtc's are common untested dtc's and will come and go as they fail and pass the test cycles, I wouldn't be concerned by them: p0100-mass or volume air flow circuit p1103-mas air flow sensor in range but high p0234- turbo/ super charger overboost condition These two codes are expected when the EGR is unplugged: p1402- Exhaust gas/ recirculation metering orifice p1409 Exhaust gas reticulation regulator solenoid I have never had this dtc when I had my EGR unplugged pre remap: p0403-Exhaust gas recirculation control circuit These dtc's are to do with the remap process and appear after using the remap interface and are common. Remember to clear them before putting the Puma in for a warranty claim as they are a tell tale for a remap. p1643- CAN link engine control module/ transmission control module circuit/ network malfunction u0300- internal control module software incompatible u0155-lost communication with instrument cluster As to the faults you are experiencing this is what I would be doing to narrow it down: Check for tested DTC's using a diagnostic tool. Use my IDS and do the fast idle test, if the results where OK I would be checking the fuel system a little closer. Can you post up live data on the readings from the MAP, MAF, Fuel pressure at rail, Boost pressure and engine temp reading taken from the CHT sensor? Unplug and spray electrical contact cleaner onto all of the main sensors, MAF, MAP, CMP (camshaft position sensor), CKP (crankshaft position sensor), Injector harness plugs, Volume control valve (VCV), accelerator pedal position sensor (APP) etc etc. Is the battery OK? If the vehicle voltage drops down to between 6-9 volts the fuel injector operation is restricted, affecting engine speed range and idle speed. In the event of a failure of a fuel injector, the following symptoms may appear, engine misfire, irregular Idle, reduced engine performance, reduced fuel economy, difficult starting and increased smoke emissions. Put a litre of Forte diesel treatment into the fuel tank. Run the engine till warm then remove the fuel filter and pour out the diesel and top up with more Forte treatment. This will give a good clean to the injector nozzles improving the spray (misting) for a better burn. Did you make sure the EGR valve was closed before unplugging? Check the pressure limiting valve on the fuel rail has not operated. If it has it will fall apart when you remove it and will need replacing. Even though the MAP sensor gets checked in the fast idle test I would still remove it and clean if necessary, Click image to enlarge Also check the turbo actuator control bar is, still attached and not seized through corrosion. The bar should feel loose and be connected to both the actuator arm and the vane control arm. Click image to enlarge These are just some things I would do initially to rule out the most obvious causes. My initial thought is that there is an issue with the fuelling, whether that's mechanical (poor injector spray pattern, failing injector, fuel rail pressure sensor, faulty VCV, pump or faulty pump fuel temp sensor) or electrical ( wiring harness, ECU or plug connections.), the above suggestions may help us narrow down the cause. Thanks for your posts guys.
Unfortunately I can't post any live data on the readings, might need to invest in a nanocom for this issue. *The egr is also blanked off with a planking plate. *Battery readings seem to be fine I understand it's always hard to diagnose these problems while not being in front of the car, however any advice is more than welcome. |

i had similar symptoms, turned out to be the fuel pump pressure regulator and sensor and the overpressure valve, it now coming back and surges/overruns on deceleration so i now suspect a knackered HP pump, should have just changed it while we had it in bits.

Hi Guys
I have a Puma Defender 2.4 with 48000km on the clock. When I have driven it for a while and I start to encounter traffic or when I stop at a traffic light or stop street it rev's whilst idling, when I have really done a run and i come to a stop she sometimes rev's and cuts out. I am not technically minded and have read through all this but it would seem I am experiencing the same problem as per above. Would you agree? Thanks Joanna |

Hi Joanna, do you have a tool to see the error codes? That would be give you a first indication of where the problem lies. Also, a clean of the MAF sensor is probably warranted. Is your EGR self-cleaning when you switch off the truck? You should hear a 'huka-chucka' sound about 5 times. If this is not happening or is overly screechy, your EGR is shot and you need a new one. If your truck if out of warranty, take it to LR Service Centre or British 4x4. If you are closer to CFM/CEY/CL, take it to Schalk Burger in Strand -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

When mine was smoking badly Matfords found a split hose affecting all sorts of things and making it smoke and run badly. Examine all hoses closely it was a split on a joint somewhere. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Hi Naks thanks for the response, I do not have a tool to check error codes. Where can I get this? Also When I have taken it in to LR Stellenbosch they have reported no error codes? LR N1 downloaded software and it fixed the problem for only 2 weeks then it was back. My car does make a huka-chucka about 2 times when I switch off. I am taking it into LR Service centre tomorrow morning in hope they can help. Today and yesterday drove her no problems, checked all fuses nothing. I will speak to LR SC about MAF sensor. Thanks again I will keep you posted. Regards, Joanna |

I would avoid N1 City - they are useless. I find it hard to believe there are no error codes with the behaviour you are describing. But check all hoses, clamps, etc. If you're around Stellenbosch (Technopark )during the day let me know, I have a remap device which also reads error codes. Otherwise you can get a bluetooth OBD2 scanner (http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/73468633/ELM327_Portable_Wireless_Vgate_Scan_Advanced_OBD2_EOBD_Bluetooth_Scan_Tool_NEXT_DAY_DISPATCH.html) and read them on your phone. -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |
