Anyone with a webasto .. have you fitted or considered fitting a fuel line tap ?

yes but didnt do it in the end. rather leave the original fuel system alone.
I understand how it is done and that the webasto pump should seal off, avoiding the webasto to flood under pressure of the original lines but i really preferred to do it this way: 
(pics off blacklandy.de) also saves the hassle of warranty, insurance and MOT in case something goes wrong with the fuel system. my 2 cents only

now that solution from Tatra seems a very good way of doing it. in fact i may revisit fitting one with that idea. Cheers

I agree, but I would also fit a protection plate to stop stones and muck from damaging the fuel pipe. |

the webasto has its own in-line fuel pump. In fact I have a brand new one in a bag somewhere...

My concern is the fuel pressure running up against the webasto pump or the webasto unit itself
And if there is any need to isolate it during the summer |

I installed a eberspacher in a merc vito, using the merc instructions.
In this application, i tapped into the fuel return line with a T, worked fine. |

Pom, the schematics of the puma fuel system are out here somewhere on the forum.
You have 2 loops 1 between filter/cooler/pump 1 between filter and tank You are half right saying there is no pressure but only in the second loop. The first loop is always under pressure, also the return to the filter. This is where people plug in the T as it is the nearest position to the webasto water heater. But it can become a problem once the webasto in-line pump starts leaking and fills the webasto with fuel. + getting air in this side is problematic. If you plug into the second loop, you can as well go to the tank directly as you are that close to the tank already. If you T-off into this return line you will suck dry air if not on a full tank as the pipe does not go deep enough. If you T-off in the suction line you risk again that the webasto pump will not seal off one day and the puma fuelpump will start sucking air trough the webasto. As the puma fuelpump is not self-priming it is a bad idea to my opinion to disturb this fuel line. 2cents |

this is exactly my point, so I am thinking that I can install a fuel-cut-off tap on the feed to the webasto pump for the summer and when the unit is not going to be in use for long periods. something like this Click image to enlarge |

No way to install the Webasto fuel line on the Defender loops.
Every time that someone tried the slight loops pressure "disturb" the Webasto (rich and/or irregular burning)........ You need an independent line... Also a non-return valve on the small water pipe on the expansion bottle...... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

I know about the non-return valve
I'm just looking at all the options to connect into the fuel and there are a few 1. seperate tank - ok but no fun filling in the arctic circle 2. T into the existing ... no problems reported by constant pressure on the webasto pump + isloation tap 3. Bean-Can and pipe fitting like Tatra805s - looks to be a good idea but where can I get the fitting from ? 4. drop tank and fit seperate pipe direct into tank like COBS - will i be able to drop the tank without breaking it ? 5. cut hole in floor and tap directly into tank like dgardel - not keen on cutting hole in defender floor I think i'm going to drop the tank - option 4 ... we're moving house soon so I will get a big garage to do this work and no pressure to do all in a day |
