Is the trailer parallel to the ground when loaded and hitched up?

Hi Keith, not quite but only about an inch or so out of level (rear end down) along the length of the trailer which is about 7 or 8 feet long.

Years ago folk would have said speed up if your trailer snaked, but nowadays the advice usually given is to gradually slow down.

I think its the road surface that causes it, I had a cherry picker on hire that was towable. Probably 2 tons. Towed it fine and hit a streth on the motorway where it just snaked. Foot off the accellerater and let the vehicle slow down on its own and it righted itself. Never did it again so I put it down to the wind/road.

The caravan club advises that best practice is to slow down gradually (ie not using the brakes) to control the sway. I understand that this is often caused by incorrect loading ( too much weight at the back leading to a pendulum effect) or just too much weight period - tail wagging the dog etc
Pom, for someone who is vehemently opposed to caravanning you ain't half hanging around this section of Def2 I reckon you're considering becoming a "weekend Pikey" Just do it ! |
