Sorry to hear it was a pig. The clips are the hardest,eh?
From your pic I would say that it still has some air in their somewhere. Mine sits a bit higher and others I have seen also sit higher.
If your running lower than norm your engine won't be as efficient as it could be.

Did you put the heater knobs to full heat when topping up?

Up to you, but if it was mine I would be bleeding it again.

Yep the stupid clips, my hands are in bits but at least its done now.

Yes put the heater to full and it started out cold and then warmed up.

I'll bleed it again when I get home at the weekend. Thanks for the help.

my td5 ran with the temp gauge vertical. as did all the other td5 defenders i drove through work or otherwise.

if its cold ambient and the heater is on full it can take a while to warm up, around 0 deg mine used to take forever to get to normal temp with heater on max.

temp on mine would also drop from vertical if sat in traffic in near 0 with heater on max.

viscous works as it should i take it?

To be honest I don't know if it is working properly. Is there a test I can do to check?

From googling it seems it shouldn't move at all (by hand) when the engine is hot and off, and will only move a little bit when the engine is cold and off? I've never actually tried to turn it when the engine was hot actually but I know it only moves a little bit (it seems slightly stiff) when cold. Tdci 110 DC

is there a constant draw of air felt on the front of the vehicle. when a viscous is locked up you can normally feel the draw of air from them. Cheers

I'll check at the weekend when I get back to the 90. Thanks for the tip. Tdci 110 DC

Measured it should be 88.2deg c. When sitting idle.

Needle on the gauge sits slightly to the left from Center. This assumes your sender n gauge are correct.

What you are getting with the above assumption is around 64deg.

The gauge is not linear. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.
