I have been waiting for someone to stock these for the Puma. But it looks like I will have to get one made up specially as there has not been much interest in suppliers supplying ceramic exhaust manifolds for the Puma. Alive tuning does one for the TD5 engine though.

Have a chat with Gary at Alive, he might be able to do you a Puma one, does the Puma suffer from Manifold problems as well?
As to stud kit as well - quite often when the manifold is warped it snaps at least 1 stud (I had 4 go on my D2) This entails possibly having to drill out the broken stud(s) Some people then fit the JE stud kit as well I did my D2 just with ceramic manifold and new studs and did not have another problem |

On the JE Stud kit - are they just a better quality product than the standard ones?

No they also have spacer fitted between nut and manifold.
I brought them, but they did not turn up in time to use, so just removed manifold webbing, had it refaced flat then refitted it, but changed all studs to new and made 4 outer most to M10 or M12. Can't rember now. The important thing is NOT to fit new manifold, but machine old one. Andy |

I agree with Andy, fitting a machined flat used manifold generally stops the warping from happening again. I have machined many manifolds and modifyed the webbing and not one has warped again.

Thanks for the advice. Machine flatten it is then.
From a bit of reading, am I right in thinking that the spacers are used if you remove the webbing. What does the webbing do? Cheers Andrew |

I have a ceramic manifold and je stud kit, and when I took it of to do a job it had a slight bow in it! Maybe this was because the manifold had never warped and when they warp and be skimmed they never do it again I don't know but I must admit it does stay alot cooler than the original manifold,

I see the TD5 manifold is really tight, But would it be possible (and wiser) to fit tubular manifold on the Puma? The increased flow will also help reduce temperature.

The kit (used to) consist of replacement studs that are 10mm as opposed to the standard 8mm and the new studs are longer. This involved drilling out the old threads and cutting new m10 threads into the head. The new studs are a higher quality than the standard. The also comes with 'bobbins' or a thick spacer washer for each stud located between the manifold and standard washer, this allows the manifold flange to expand and contract without breaking the studs. 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Click image to enlarge This is a JE stud kit with a turbo steady bar. TBH, usually on really tuned Td5's the stud kit and one of Alive Tuning's ceramic manifolds does the trick, but some people ask for the steady bar as well. Jon Hollick is the chap at JE you need to talk to for a kit. The studs are standard diameter so no extra engineering required. And do get the face of the manifold skimmed as mentioned. Also, check you don't have an iffy remap causing manifold temperature issues, and also the cat and exhaust isn't part blocked. |
