They will be to pay for the extra pay, holiday and less hours the tanker drivers want.

I remember when they threatened this a year or 2 ago and it was released that tanker drivers get paid somewhere between £50,000 & £70,000 a year. But that is not enough for the dangerous job they do Rolling with laughter

Hell that a lot more than most house hold incomes in the UK!

I think London tube drivers get about £50,000 a year and they say that an offer of £800 to work during the Olympics Shocked

Thats total cack, they don't earn anything like that - £45K at the absolute most and the majority are on a lot less. Yet more media hype to try and dissuade the publc from supporting them. The tanker drivers are considering strike action simply to keep what they have now, nowhere has it been said (except in the lying media of course) that they want anything more than they have now. Its all a race to the bottom and its the drivers who lose out, as well as the rest of the everyday people - the oil companies and the government will be just as well off if not better off no matter what happens - how much do you think the tax take was over the past couple of days due to panic buying? Absolutely crazy. Instead of moaning about tanker drivers wages we should be objecting to MPs salaries, and fat cat bonuses at the banks and so on - after all, its those who got us all into this mess, not tanker drivers!

I think all this talk about the extra tax revenue generated by the current surge in demand is absolute boll*x. Extra revenue would require a greater overall consumption over the coming weeks and months. All this is just a short term blip. The reality is that the tax revenue will almost certainly be lower in the medium term than it would have been due to some people wishing to conserve the fuel that they have and therefore use less than they would normally. Rich

And of course to add to that as well as having the skills to drive such lorries they have the dangers of effectively towing a flammable bomb on a trailer. I wouldn't fancy it would you?....

Can't say I would - I drive a lorry which cannot possibly explode and its stressful enough. Some claim the tankers cannot explode either, but I wouldn't like to be the one to put it to the test.

Light goes on I fill up 350 miles later light goes on i fill up easy, except today leaving London on the A4 heading for Wales tonight 7 count them 7 stations closed out of fuel. Got some near Hounslow in a BP but had to wait and wait in a very long line and bloody £1.51 a litre when i got there. Got enough to get me home tomorrow night so i am alright Jack If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

I'm just below a quarter of a tank... Three local stations dried up as of 5pm this afternoon (Saturday 31st march).

There's a local Shell garage which has diesel, but Big Black doesn't seem to like Shell that much, plus the price has mysteriously gone up another few pence per litre so I'm very reluctant to go there. Although I may need to if my regular garage doesn't get any derv tomorrow.

My major beef with all panic buying is that earlier this week I had a walk along the gridlocked road near the local Morrisons petrol station, spying at petrol guages (very hot day, lots of windows wound down) and 90% of the cars queuing up had at least 3/4 of a tank left. And I'm willing to put money on the fact a lot of them cars will only be used for a five mile round trip to commute to work every day! Yet me who relies on my car for work now has to struggle to get fuel, because I couldn't afford to waste a couple of hours to top my tank up midweek!

(yes I know I could just use Shell, but its the principle... As mentioned above)
