Towing electrics
Hi guys,

I've been reading about charging trailer batterys with the defender using the S type connector that Land Rover provide for towing.. One thing that keeps popping up is the need for a battery isolator to prevent draining issues etc. Does the defender have one as standard?

Thanks Jack

The battery in my camper is charged via Euro style trailer plug, wired into lights as normal but the battery feed is via a charger unit in the camper, that only charges batteries once ignition is on.

The charger feed is fed directly from the battery via its own 20A fuse

The "ignition on" signal is taken from the heated seat relay under driver seat as this has an "ignition live" signal.
Some use the front heated screen arrangement that only permit charging once he oil pressure registers ( I.e. only charge once engine running) but this is complex to install and unnecessary as the caravan charger units normally only permit charging once voltage from LR reaches 13.5 volts I.e engine running and LR battery substantially charged.

Never allow batteries in trailer to be directly connected to the LR battery without a charger unit, controlling it as you might need a fire extinguisher when one battery tries to cook the other one. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

I'm away at the moment, will try to look up on internet to see if I recognise it.
