It depends on how you want to set it up, but if you're having a separate screen then the switching between cameras is often a function that's built-in. For example, the screen I've bought has two inputs, one primary and one secondary. You connect the first camera - the one you'll use mostly - to the secondary input. This one could be switched on by a feed from the reverse light circuit. The second camera is connected to the primary input and operated by a separate switch (or perhaps a two way switch between them - the choice is yours). The clever bit is that when the screen detects a feed via the primary input, it automatically switches the display to that picture. Turn the second camera off again and it switches back to the first camera.
I don't know whether screens that are built into stereos have that function or not, but it's worth looking out for. Can anyone who has fitted a rear view camera comment on how dirty it gets. Looking at the filthy state of my rear window at times, I would think it will need wiping clean very often. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Back a bit to an earlier post,
just for interest like - what is the large oval (ish) hole in the rear cross member meant to be for? I thought for towing electrics , but when mine arrived, they were mounted on the tow bar so it's not that (unless an extra set for something else maybe) Doesn't seem to be any access to the drivetrain for a pto or anything like that so puzzled. I don't want to put a camera in there and then find when I want to add x accessory that it needs the hole So what's it for? (I don't have it on my 1980 90) DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

If of any help - I have one of these:
http://www.trailervision.co.uk/index.php?m...cts_id=180 Fantastic bit of kit and although I use it for monitoring the dogs in the DC it can be used for multiple purposes including reversing I bought one of their clearance models - not recon or used - just a grey instead of black screen surround. Give them a ring as they are very helpful - but product is first class and infact 100 times better than my actual reversing camera - which cost more than this did Defender 110 Puma Utility XS |

Thanks DJ I changed your link slightly to get it to work.. http://images.kenwood.eu/files/prod/2446/5/CMOS-210_310_(EN).pdf That looks a neat camera, I wonder if it would connect to a standard monitor instead of a Kenwood head unit?
Sounds interesting, I like the idea of having two cameras for when im towing. And perhaps connected to a rear view mirror monitor that clips onto the existing mirror? http://www.parkingcameras.com/store/produc...featured=Y http://www.towsure.com/product/Rear_View_R...ied_Fitted |

Yes it will connect to any monitor, I already checked that with kenwood in holland (can't find a number for uk customer support, only email)
Thanks for sorting out the link, couldn't get that to work at all. The twin camera setup looks good as does towsure kit, but the cameras are quite big ones. I did look at the clip on the mirror idea, but as I'm having a screen anyway didn't take that any further, I understand they are good though (not sure if they fit between the sunshades though as the monitor looks quite wide - depending on who's site you get the measurements from ) Think I've sorted out the position and cable routing now though, so just need to flash the card and get it sorted. Hi tolley, the ebay ones are fine if you get them cheap enough
The nightvision is something you have to like or not, me personally i'm not a huge fan. Because the image is no longer in color and goes to black and white. In most cases a non-IR camera will outperform a IR-camera since you never drive in complete pitch black darkness the use for 'nightvision' is rather over the top. I say this from my own experience with the cameras I have on my defender. When coming home at night, the rear is allready in 'nightvision' mode and my side cameras are still able to produce a nice color image. In regards to cleaning, I've got a low mounted and does require a to give it the 'finger' from time to time I mean, you swipe your lens with your finger Caution, in contrast to our gorilla glass with anti-glare interior coating and dirt repelling outer coating, those ebay cameras sometimes have plastic lenses, so the finger swipe thing might damage your plastic. Please check out this post, you can see some back up cameras on different defenders : http://www.defender2.net/forum/post130525.html#130525 Camera monitor systems: www.comatra.eu TPMS systems: www.tp2.eu |

Im considering one of these cameras (but in black) mounted above the rear door in place of the washer nozzle. The twin camera would be ideal for me, one for seeing my towbar when hitching up, and one for a general rear view picture. Perhpas connected to a rear view mirror monitor that either displays both images, or switches between the two?
http://www.parkingcameras.com/store/produc...featured=Y I'd also like a white one fitted to the rear of my caravan. Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

The only problem with one above the door is that you can't really see the tow bar as the spare is in the way. Darren
