Not that happened to me (quite often on heavily used&abused Pumas), but when the rear shock or the upper shock mount brakes, the shock goes stright to the filter holder/pipes, leaving you in the spot. So, another spare in the toolbox if you travel far away (50-60 quid). Puma 110" SW

Well, having taken the car out this morning with the mechanic and it having performed (meaning they didn't ask me if i'd simply stalled it myself), I got a call from LR this evening to say that the fuel system seems fine and faultless. What they think it might be is the "crankshaft position sensor". They will plug it in and drive it until it repeats the fault and contact me in the morning.

I like the Merlin thread (found above) - that's interesting. I'll mention it to them if the CPS isn't the culprit. It's a pain in the proverbial. I miss my Tank Big Cry

Will keep you posted and thank you for ongoing thorough contributions to this thread Thumbs Up

Update:

Having run all the tests plugged in to the diagnostic computer while driving with the fault repeating, nothing out of the ordinary flagged up. In fact NO fault codes at all.

The fuel lines all fine.

They're going to change the crankshaft position sensor tomorrow to see if that makes any difference. I, and they doubt it will.

Ultimately they are communicating with LR direct to trace and sort this fault. It seems to have rattled their cages which is a good thing in my book. A squeaky gate and all that. Apparently EGR has been ruled out. It's a total mystery.

Doubt we'll have her back in 2011 Rolling Eyes

MMMMM? strange.

How does the engine shu down mechanism works? ie. telling the pump to stop.

Good luck! Thumbs Up Puma 110" SW

That is a strange one as the CKP (Crank shaft position) sensor is responsible for Engine Synchronisation, Determines fuel injection timing, Enables the fuel pump relay circuit (after the priming period) and produces an engine speed signal which is broadcast on the controller area network (CAN) bus for use by other systems. If the CKP was at fault ie: air gap to large or was installed incorrectly then the engine timing would be thrown out on the EMS side and this would be noticeable throughout the engine rev range, if the engine would run at all! And then there is the CMP (Cam shaft pulley) sensor which the EMS uses to sync the CKP in the first start up phase with No 1 cylinder so that the injector timing is sync'd. So you would think if the CKP was at fault it would show up elsewhere other than at idle Confused

Did you mention the passive immobilizer to them? Also there could be an issue with the anti stall within the EMS programming.

The EMS disables the fuel injector circuit and closes the VCV (Volume Control Valve), so no fuel into the cylinders or into the fuel pump. Thumbs Up

Update:

I've suggested everything suggested on here (thank you Lorryman) to LR and there's no problem found. They have been in constant dialogue with Solihull who have confirmed that everything testable has been tested and that now there is nothing left to test. Fuel injection and everything imaginable has been relearnt on the ECU. The fault is now not showing. They wonder whether the 15 exploration has inadvertently cleared a fault. Everyone has an eyebrow raised but there appears to be little else to investigate. Rusting, rubbing, loose connections, ECU, fuelling, crankshaft position sensor all checked thoroughly and nothing.

LR Solihull will come out and investigate themselves if this reoccurs again.

110 getting delivered back tomorrow and being charged for about 2 hours as quoted for that initially. Frustrating and relief at the same time. I've missed the old girl.

Any further news on this?

My 90 has just failed to start four/fime times in a row - if it were a petrol, I would have said it was flooded!

Engine turning over, just not firing.

Tried warming up the glow plugs by turning on & off the ignitiion half a dozen times - no change.

Went indoors to get the LRA card, came back outdoors and tried it again and up she fired.

It was decidedly lumpy all the way to the office, with it momentarily cutting out / losing power at 70 on the bypass.

Just called LRA and they will be here at 11:00. Barney

Have you LED side light?

On same LED BULB if you have side light ON and you push the brake pedal you can see the instrument panel goes ON like you turn the key........... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

All the lights off.

Embarassed Did try and start it with it in gear - I got so used to driving the auto, I forgot about the clutch! Barney

Our 110 has taken to stalling unexpectedly. This morning it did it in neutral at standstill and started again as soon as the key was turned.

This afternoon it's done it at 50mph going from 5th to 4th.

The other day the fuel light came on and 10 miles later it did this just outside the garage.

Any ideas?

Sounds a lot like the Puma's 'Out of fuel' engine strategy. There is a run dry engine strategy which will run the engine with a misfire and then shut it down completely to protect the vehicle. Perhaps something is causing this strategy to run?

That's what I thought, but last time it happened, LRA checked the fuel pressure and all was OK.

LRA have just been again, checked the usual suspects and said "don't know, take it to the dealer".

So down to Lancaster Reading we go. Barney

I expect they will just fit a new rail and pass it out. you can test it for them and if it does the same thing then it will be a new fuel pump. Rolling Eyes

No, nothing Barney. She came back from the dealers and no reoccurrence, although they admit they have no idea what it is/was.

I've heard of a 90 local to me with this at my indie, but know no more.
