AT grabber or Continental?
Sure this has been debated a lot on here but for a defender that spends 80-90% of its time on the road which are the best tyres for handling and ride? I personally find the AT Grabbers rather skittish?..

The Grabbers on my TD5 scared me in the wet and off the straight.

The Conti's on the Puma are head and shoulders above them and I actually trust them in the wet and when turning. I used to have my heart in my mouth with the Grabbers- in all conditions at all speeds. D300 HSE 110

I'm glad you said that, I thought it was just me and my 90 Very Happy

I can't believe how bad they are. KwikFit just quoted me £548 for 4 Contis fitted, balanced and tracking done - any views on whether that's reasonable?

Never had a scary problem in my 90 with the Grabbers wet or dry and I don't hang about.

I'm amazed to hear that. I've had Grabbers on my last three (all different) Land Rovers and never had a problem. My wife covered over 60k on them in her DII without incident. Darren

I can say after 3 recent defenders, all with Grabbers on, I've never felt in the slightest bit safe either in the wet or for stopping distances. I know the car is "unique" in it's overall handling;) but I do attribute some of the problem to those tyres. I drove a friends defender a while back with wranglers on and that certainly felt better, but these Conti's do get good reviews.

Thats another for the Conti's, they have served me very well and I've never had any problem (yet touch wood) in snow, mud or on grass Russell

I know these things can be subjective, but given the diametrically opposite views, it occurs to me that perhaps we're not talking about the same tyres Confused Do you mean the Grabber TR that comes, or at least used to come, as the stock tyre or the Grabber AT2? Darren

Strangely, was just about to post my 25,000 mile review of the 'new' Grabber ATs (as opposed to their old AT2s), and was going to rave about how good they are! Thumbs Up

I also certainly don't hang about, and I've found the grip in the wet and dry, road noise and handling to be all first rate.

Only downside - They don't wear as well as my old AT2s (I'll probably get 40,000 miles out of this set), but the road surfaces are pretty terrible round here, and I guess that's the price you pay for the fact that the ATs comply with the latest EU drive-by noise legislation. Rolling Eyes

Me, I love the Grabber ATs! The Grabber TRs however, are a different kettle of fish!

I've had GG AT's on my D3 for over 20K miles now, and would say they are proably the best AT tyre I've used on the road.
They also perform well on Green lanes, gravel beaches, and on slimy slipways and wet grass with a boat/trailer on the back.

Contis on 11MY defenders are great, much better than AT Grabbers in my experience on and off road. Cheers
