I am sure this has been posted on the site before but I can't find it.
On the way to work this morning the engine started over running on gear changes, go to change gear at 2500 rpm depress clutch as normal and revs keep going up (yes - foot off the accl. !!) to 3,000 or so and then very slowly drop down. All fine when not changing gear. Any ideas ?? My monies on this. Fitted a worklight at the weekend and thought I had used the spare connectors for the heated rear window that a DC does not have, bet I have tapped it into one HW connector and one rear brake light ![]() ![]() Garage are going to check. I had the same trouble when my trailer plug shorted. It's a strange side effect, but on the plus side it warns you that your lights don't work!

Update
It was my dodgy wiring - I blame the LR circuit diagrams ![]() Blew the brake light fuse and that in turn caused the over run. Thanks Tim - one to remember for the future plus don't trust the LR wiring diagrams ![]() Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

Hi Deano
By blowing the fuse for the brake lights the ECU thinks there is a brake problem and for some reason adjusts the revs when changing gear, the dealer did try to explain why but I got lost ! The mistake I made was to use the supposed earth return in the spare wiring harness - it is not a return and hence blew the brake light fuse. What they did was to use the earth on the permanent live two pin connector for the worklight earth rather than creating a new earth point. I will check the exact pin that I used for the worklight in the morning but it is the one for the rear heated window. Up front I purchased a heated rear window switch and fog light switch, changed the fronts over so I have a heated window switch with a fog light front and then plugged that into the first space to the left of the hazard switch, provided you do not pull the existing blank out to hard the rear window harness is attached and can simply be connected to the switch. Worklight now has an illuminated switch plus the heated rear window warning light when it is on. Only downside is the light only works with the ignition on. I can't say this was my idea, Blackwolf first posted it. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic9330.html Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

Weird is certainly true
![]() Trying to use an existing unused circuit was a good idea but in future I think I will put my own circuits in for anything new, at least I will know what should be affected if I get it wrong.
