Afraid you would be an outlaw if you would do that in a TD4 2.2, or a 2.4 for that matter You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

How about a forward facing rear seat to fit behind the 2nd row of seats - either original or Exmoor. LANDYWATCH

Zag - We were told it was from Landrover and also negates insurance if fitted but I'm sure someone here will have the definitive answer Defender 110 Puma Utility XS

Really? didnt know that, i could carry 6 passengers + me legally in my 90 if i wanted, be no room for anything else mind unless i hitched up the trailer Presumably then it has something to do with lap belts and 3 point harnessing on newer vehicles? 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top Beer 'n Sex 'n Chips 'n Gravy |

Chief - yes my understanding is no problem if the vehicle came with the capacity but due to legislation changes inward facing seats and middle seats cannot be supplied as standard on newer vehicles.
I think inward facing can be retro fitted legally but you need insurance agreement and middle seats can't be and don't get insurance agreement but I'm only speaking as a lay person and not by any means an expert Defender 110 Puma Utility XS |

I would have thought that the problem concerned Type Approval. If type approval was gained without the seats fitted, then they probably cannot be fitted.
You might be able to fit a centre front seat and then get SVA on it as a modification though, but I am not sure what you'd do for the seatbelt (lap belts alone are no longer sufficient). Restraint is probably the reason that the option has been deleted (plus the fact that there isn't room for anything for anything larger than a midget). I think that side facing seats have now been precluded under amendments to the Construction & Use Regulations so are a definitie no-no. Again the reason is that it is almost impossible to restrain a passenger in a side-facing seat adequately. |

I have fitted a centre seat in my 130 - along with the 3 point seatbelt http://www.johncraddock-trim.co.uk/index.p...p;Itemid=3
It works well - but only for children. It is not quite legal - but no one around these parts would lift an eyebrow! Regards CRJ 88 Ser. 3 1980 -sold Puma 130 - 08- sold 90 200tdi 1991 - sold 88 Ser. 3 1977 200 TDI 110 CC 2003 |

If you hava a Puma 2.4 or 2.2 as I think to read from your first post, note that retrofitting a center seat will be fully illegal, not only in Holland, but Europe wide. Same time, as of 2007 the reason why LR went away from inward facing rear seats was that they were also outlawed by EU. So the bad news is that retrofitting either a front middle seat or any inward facing seats to a 2007 onward Defender can neither be legalized, nor will be accepted by any insurance company. Doing so, they would break the law themselves. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

O.K. Eric
Concerns noted But if I want to install a front seat for whatever reason, where can I find a installation manual for the seat belt? Pictures of an installed belt will do as well. Cheers Q. |
