I know there's been problems with the fuel breather causing contamination in the tank. Could it also cause the power drop?

Just got mine back from the dealers a couple of days ago. They replaced the fuel pressure regulator and they mentioned that the fuel tank breather pipe had split causing contamination of the fuel tank, this leads me to the question why did the fuel filter not filter the contamination out before it got to the engine?

The vehicle was in the dealers 6 wks waiting for a new tank breather pipe and then they could only do a temp fix as, so I have been told, the company who supplies the breather pipe to land rover have gone bust.

The breather pipe is nothing special and could be picked up from any truck spares type place Mike

Your absolutely right, could have done the job myself for a few quid. But due to it being a 08 vehicle the dealers insists on fitting genuine approved parts. It's one of those can of worms situation about fitting non approved parts and warranty claims. Could be and interesting topic though.

My pipe extension wasnt using genuine parts, but was done at gaydon...does that make it genuine? Mike

Maybe the dealer you used is doing the same as the dealer I used in providing a temp repair and will then fit the new breather when they become available again.

organised chaos, did you have your breather pipe moved or extended on your 130? I assumed it was a problem for the 110 and 90.

At the moment the breather pipe is very short with the one way valve in the end and is between the chassis rails on the top of the tank. I presume when they fit the new one it will come out across the back cross member like the original one. The local independent Land Rover service center had a look on his parts list and the 130/110 are the the same with the 90 being different.

Thank's chaos.
I'll have a look this afternoon and extend it if needed. My dealer is a waste of time, only interested in Fords. 130 crew cab

hi,
I get a very similar loss of power. When travelling at 70mph the engine goes to idle. Normally it is when going up an incline. No mater what I do, the engine will not increase until the speed has droped to 30 mph then everything is fine. When it happens it can be repeated many times by going back up to 70 ish. It is not funny when towing a large trailer or on the outside lane of the motorway. It hapens rarely and most days the problem does not occur. The dealer took it out for a test run and of course it ran ok. It was an 07 which also had other problems. Was in the dealers for 2 weeks for this the other problems, which they cannot remidy. I have had enough & gave them a hard time and have chopped it in for a new one, coming this week. Hope the new one will be ok. My old 300 was the best landie I ever had, 10 years, no breakdowns, only parts replaced, power steering pump, exhaust and a ball joint.

The problem your having with lack of power!! and the fuel regulator being the fix...NOPE!! the problem you are having with lack of power after starting the car and driving I have been having for the last 18months...I originally had water in the fuel tank due to the breather being located directly above the back wheel taking all of the spray...it happened in a month of record rain fall. we had everything clean all good..NOT

The lack of power I have is also accompanied by an engine rattle for about 30sec's usually changing into 3rd has been happening daily....it took us over a year just to prove to the dealer we ere having a problem we have had 2 valves changed injectors changed sensors changed...you named it the only thing not changed is the EGR..I know its not the EGR becasue I know of other people that have exact same symptoms in exact same conditions that have had there EGR valves changed.......but not the other stuff

My dealer has literally stabbed around in the dark not being able to solve this problem!! BUT I have since recently been told that landrover are well aware of the problem and are working on a fix! its apparently to do with the software but fix will not be to us until July.

Along with this we have had pulsing from the car on slight down hill gradients (never always had this just happened more so as the rattle that was occasional became a daily thing over the 18months)

it has been suggested by another forum member on another forum that it may well could be the timing advance

I have had the engine light on 3 times when this is happened twice it has gone into limp mode......I would say that perhaps it was caused initially by the water contamination......but hearing others that now have it or at least are now noticing it, they have never had contamination problems YOU KNOW REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS!!!!

No we haven't got it sorted yet......It has been suggested that it is software related and that the fix will be here in oz in July. I'm hoping its a fix but we have had numerous fixs over the last 18months. So as you can imagine my faith in the fix is not very high YOU KNOW REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS!!!!

some of your symptons sound identical to mine. the pulsing of the engine on a down for example, as if the engine is big time out of balance while coasting downhill (ie foot off the gas going downhill at about 50kph in fourth).

I don't wont you to loose all hope but I recently had a software / driveability 'up grade' while at the dealership and although the driveability does seem to have improved its made no difference to my problem(s).

coming along the motorway the other week and for no reason I couldn't get above 45mph regardless of gear - however no engine management light ?

I know this sounds like I'm a sucker for punishment but I'm actually considering selling the car and saving up a few to quid to buy a new one Shocked Banging Head
