Steering Guard and Jate Rings
I'm currently thinking over the options regarding steering guards and the need to have recovery points previously ruled out the SVX style ribbed one (LR008247). However, I was just looking at some pics from Landrover and found this detail:

Are those Jate rings poking through from underneath?
In that case, can I fit this steering guard and still have recovery points?

I wonder what that fair lead is made off? If aluminium forcing hook into it is not a good idea on a synthetic rope as it would cause a burr which will not do synthetic rope any good.

Rubber bush on rope will prevent that damage or hook the hook onto what appears to be Jate rings under bumper.

looks like a genuine LR steering guard, there is a little space where you could fit jates, best bet is to visit a dealer and have a look.

the instructions can be downloaded from topix

Edit - Those black things are not JATE (Joint Air Transport Establishment) but the others do look like the older rounded Jates..

Neither are the black things under the bumper JATE rings, they're lashing points for putting the vehicle on a transporter. You may get away with using them for light towing, but I wouldn't recommend it...

EDIT: No they aren't, I couldn't see the picture properly Rolling Eyes But most LRs come with the crappy tow points anyway

It depends on the steering guard - some have enough clearance for the jate rings but as far as I remember the genuine parts one doesn't.

The other option is to go for a steering guard with built in recovery points. John

That's what I thought previously and had resigned myself to something like a Rebel with inbuilt recovery points, but I really like the look of these ribbed ones and was surprised to see them with Jate rings.
Checking on the press photos for MY12 (trying to upload to my gallery), they have at least 3 different vehicles with these fitted.
I would ask my dealer, but while being lovely chaps, they do tend to come up with answers that are convenient rather than correct.

The steering guard pictured is Land Rover's own version as fitted to the military 'Wolf' hence the jate rings are made to be accessable

Expect to pay Land Rover prices if looking to get from a main dealer

The black points are part of the LR winch bumper, standard fitment. they are welded to the bottom of the winch tray. Just fitting JATE rings and the LR nudge bar was a tight squeeze, so making them fit with a steering guard must be a proper chore. 110 Tdci Double Cab

I've lightened the picture to make the underside a bit clearer.

As has already been said, the Steering Guard looks like a Genuine LR 'Wolf' one, which is designed to be used with JATE Rings.

The Winch Bumper also has Recovery Points.

Steering Guard Different Shaped Cutout
Ordered genuine steering guard part number LR008247 and special jate rings ZXC9435. Now however, it seems that Landrover have changed the shape of their steering guard cutouts. Instructions fairly clearly show shape of cutouts to allow Jate rings to fit:

My steering guard is not the same:

How tricky would it be to get this cut to the correct shape to allow my jate rings to fit? I don't fancy doing it myself as it would end up looking rubbish.

Or should I just give up on the whole jate ring idea?

The fairlead looks like the Devon stainless version. If you look in both pics you can see the D44 logo cut out. There fore having the thimble pulled into the fairlead isn't the best option but given that the SS will be stronger than the thimble it won't be a major issue 110 D250 SE HT
