Noisy 6th gear
Has anyone else found that when in 6th gear (towing especially) you get a laboured rattle from the gear box.

Its not that i've changed up to soon either, i'll usually leave 6th for 65mph+.

I'd usually just turn the radio up and ignore it, but the warranty is fast running out.

Any Ideas??

Cheers

Ian

Mine towed a 1.5 tonne trailer 4500km from new (did 200km before getting the camping trailer behind it). During that time I had no problems. IN a weeks time I'm heading off on about a 30,000km trip around Australia with the camper trailer. So I'll let you know if it rattles. I usually only do about 80kph (50mph) when on the dirt tracks and so don't get into 6th, but on the black top I'll sit on 100kph (60mph) in 6th no problem. 110 2.4TDCi

It could be the clutch?

Before mine was changed if the engine was labouring then there was a rattle but this was regardless of the gear.

Thanks!

Just realised the stupidity of my post: "Let you know if it rattles"... It's a bloody Defender and the first 630km is rough dirt track to get me out of home to the Stuart Hwy... Of course it's going to rattle, leak dust and have that lovely sound that only a Defender has when a stone strikes the rear wheel arch Shocked 110 2.4TDCi
