You need electrical solder, and not separate flux. You don't melt the wires!
A heat gun will do the best job, but a carefully directed lighter will be fine   1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Best to "tin" the wires first, just melt some solder onto each piece, then put the two together and apply the soldering iron and they will be joined, as for shrink wrap, you can shrink it with the soldering iron.

I didn't actually mean melt the wires, you melt the solder onto the wires to hold them together, clearly! Sorry.
Is it best to wrap the wires together first, then apply the solder? I have a blow torch, if used at an appropriate distance maybe that would work  2016 D4 HSE

I would wrap the bare wire too at the same time add a bit of strength as just the solder only can be a touch weak especially on larger wiring cables

I have learnt a lot today, thanks guys, looks simple so going to do some practice work tonight on old bits of wire in the warmth of the house! 2016 D4 HSE

Then again you'll regret it as they will cause more problems. Stear clear, also more commonly called 'Scotchlock'. |

I thought the tap connectors were different though? I thought the 'scotchlock' type was at the top of the page. Maybe wrong |
