this looks like a heated windscreen relay, ok for trickle charging a second battery but i'd not use it with a winching system.
Have a look at this post: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic11113.html this is a more rugged / HD version |

The 130 is an ex utility vehicle, and the winch and split charging system was fitted for them. Thought it might work with my TD5 engine, so saving £££'s
Will it not work then? 1996 Defender 130 converted to TD5 and auto 1975 Triumph Stag 3.0 V8 |

It's a standard Land Rover option. The split charge relay has 3 terminals - +ve connected to the main battery, -ve connected to common battery -ve and Out which connects to the second relay that does the switching - connecting the two studs together in this case.
No reason it shouldn't work although I'm not sure I'd want to use it on a vehicle equipped with an electric winch - I assume this was fitted with a hydraulic winch ? |

Thanks Dave. The winch is an electric husky winch. I take it the alternator sensing wire is not needed on a Td5? 1996 Defender 130 converted to TD5 and auto 1975 Triumph Stag 3.0 V8 |
