1989 Defender 110 200 Tdi USW Rimini Red
On fitting mine I realised that if I used an Otterbox defender case with my iPad, then I could have used the protective shell of the case to mount instead of the ram cradle!
For anyone who is not familiar with the cases, the Otterbox defender has a protective ABS shell that snaps over the screen to protect it, and when removed is simply snapped on the back like a cradle, so it could be secured in a vehicle as a cradle? One wife Livid!

Based on this post, I've just bought the same Ram mount (ball, bracket, arm and Tab-tight) It seems a hefty piece of kilt, is the lower dash rail (as fitted in the OP) strong enough to hold it with no flex..? Does it need some reinforcement behind to take the weight..?

Have not fitted one like the OP but I would reinforce it especially the top two holes to spread the load as much as possible.

I am guessing that the top two holes would take the brunt of the tensile forces.

Better safe then sorry?

That's what I'm thinking too...I have some 3mm ali so will make a backing plate.

An alternative, I'm thinking of getting a Mudstuff dash and then possibly fix the mount to the vertical side plate.

I would like to get this right before drilling holes in my Defender... Laughing
