Lost the will to live..........
My Puma is now 14 months old, and whilst it has not had anything like some of the problems listed by some, it has had a few. Six weeks ago, it had some paintwork done. Last week it went back because, wait for it, there was rust coming back through the re-paint! After six weeks! Also, the paint had flaked off the grill below the rad, a normal occurance, I understand.

However, the front bumper's black finnish is bubbling and peeling off in areas exposing areas of rust especially along the top and bottom rear edges that face the vehicle. Land Rover's warrenty department
have refused to do anything about this stating that it is 'impact damage', meaning I presume, stone chips, and therefore not covered under warrenty! What utter rubbish, the metal underneath the finish is just rusting. Everyone who has seen it has been in stiches at Land Rover's response.

After Series Vehicles, 200tdi, TD5, you save up to buy a Puma and be treated like this. If it was not so sad, it would be hilarious. I am at a complete loss to know how to get any sense out of anyone at Land Rover.

(If I knew how to download the photographs on here, I would do so)

I know what you mean !

My first 110XS DC, now 6 weeks old, is being replaced due to the lack of paint ! It is Galway Green with a very nice shade of white showing through ! The dealer spent 4 weeks respraying bits but in the end I wrote to Land Rover and asked for a replacement.

My replacement vehicle is at the dealers - it came directly from the factory - and the tailgate and area below had to be sprayed because there was more white showing than green ! I was supposed to take delivery this week but there appears to be a delay for some reason - I wonder what else is wrong ? !!

I gave up with the dealer and went directly to LR and had a response in 24 hours.

I hope the new 68,000 euro Fire and Ice specials are better otherwise LR will have some very unhappy customers !

Poor paint work
My Puma also suffering from poor paintwork, again awaiting a response from Land Rover.

All the paint in the roof gutters is flaking off, as is the paint on one wheel arch and also all flaked off the front grill.

Not somewhere you'd normally look, but do check your roof gutters... 2.4 110 XS

Im your expert on the gutters and the roof.

I had a huge battle with them over it - i do mean huge!! even got it internally escalated and customer services didnt want to know, although accepted there was a problem
They blamed everything!

3 attempts to repair the roof and i hope the work holds. Mike

If only my problems were as minor as yours. I would be delighted if that was all that was wrong with mine !!
At the dealers again for more warranty work ,the 10th time in a year.
This time - New clutch , Rear wheel bearings again, New Air flow meter and to repair a ding they but in the wing top when it was in last time.

IMHO you would be better off to take of the parts that are rusting and have them refinished by a professional. I know its not right and will cost some money but would give you piece of mind.

Nidge,

As I said at the start of the post, I have had other problems, but not as many as a lot of people who have posted here.

What I am particulaly highlighting here is Land Rover's response, possibly advised by the dealer, that these problems are not thier responsibility, when manifestly, they most certainly are. The finish on these parts is just bio-degrading. Are we seriously suggesting that having spent £26k, we have to get parts re-finished because Land Rover try and fob us off? Never heard of that before.

Has anyone had any luck with getting a degree of sensibility from Land Rover warrenty department? Whats the trick?

Unfortunatley the next nearest dealer is a good couple of hours away, which does not sound too bad, but means half a day off work just to get there and back and I'm loath to give the wife the problems of getting it sorted.

After 30 years of Land Rovers, including rebuilds, shows and gatherings, I really am beginning to think that I have had enough. Mine has been rust proofed from brand new, has a (brilliant) BAS upgrade and two sets of carpets. The only 'off-roading' has been the lanes of Snowdonia and some wet grass, 10.5k miles and now I have decided to sell it. I hate arguments and rows, Land Rover and the dealers seem to thrive on them.

Just do this:

Write a letter to the dealer principle explain the issues.

Give him a reasonable timeframe to reply with an action plan - 14days.

In the letter state if they do not take appropriate action then a small claims summons will be issued by the county court for the cost of the next nearest dealer completing the work - with warranty and any loss of earnings to do this.

Your contract is with the dealer - not LR - LR support the dealer, the dealer support you.

DOnt get worked up - accept that these things do take some time and see where you get with that. Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion, however the dealer that I brought the Puma from is on the other side of the country, 300 miles away, we moved about 5 months after the purchase.

When we did move, I contacted LR Customer Services and they stated that any warrenty work would be carried out by any dealer, anywhere. However, most dealers are not really bothered about Defender purchasers, they are only interested in Diso and RR buyers.

And the bottom line is "Well Land Rover warrenty say............."

An invidious situation.

Regards

Chay
