Defender 200TDi manifold?
Is it possible to buy a new exhaust manifold?

If yes where and how much?

I'm thinking of doing a TDi swap into my '62 Series, and from all seaches it looks like I need a Disco engine with a Defender 200 manifold. That combination is supposed to be the least amount of hacking into the chassis etc.I've been told that used Defender ones are rare and expensive, and add my location into the mix(Canada) it makes searching for used hard.

Big right up here http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/ about the pro's and cons of converting a Series 2 into a TDi. The gearbox is not designed to take the load whatever anyone says and they do break. It's a noisy, heavy lump in a Series with a lot of vibration - not a nice conversion IMHO. Many discussions either way on this on the Series2 Club forum. 200 Tdi heads tricky to get hold of to let you know for the future but you should be able to get a manifold. Steve Parker may be good to contact also, does bespoke exhausts, you will have to Google him - good luck.

hi canadian landy Very Happy is your series a swb or lwb as mines a swb and its got the discovery manifold with the steve parker stainless exhaust and didnt need cutting or hacking of the chassis ,mines been converted for 3 years now we average about 10k miles a year and get around 40 mpg and also weve had no issues with the gearbox we do have an overdrive fitted and its running 750s will sit happily on the motorway at 70 mph and pulls like a train to get there for us it was definately the right conversion but as zag says they are not everyones cup of tea you should have a go in one first if the chance arises Thumbs Up paul n tash

I'm only thinking or dreaming of a swap and really not sure that I want to mess up what I have ^,a decent orginal '62 station wagon. However,I want to keep using it daily, but I can't seem to keep the engine running decent.Maybe I'm asking too much of the old girl......

She is still working for it.

The Disco manifold locates the turbo where the steering box is on left hand drive.

A reasonable conversion for a Series is to fit a 200tdi but without the turbo - a 200di. This still gives a very useable engine that's comparatively powerful and, by all accounts, very economical. It neatly solves the exhaust issue too, as it re-uses the original exhaust complete. Darren
