Thanks TIG, i had no idea they existed, what a great use of engine power/torque to slow you down.

Exhaust brake and full gas leaves a full smoke trail behind

Exhaust brakes cause huge upper cylinder pressures and the heat generated absolutely cooks the exhaust valve stems which melt the rubber O ring seals which soon causes oil to run past and burn on acceleration and more so on decelleration. Modern engines cut the fuel off as soon as the EB is applied. Clever hauliers disconnect due to this and they know the drivers can use in situations where the footbrake should be utilised. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Sorry not a clever idea

Exhaust brakes are invaluable on long descents they save the main brakes for when you need them . Seen many a rig pulled over with cooked brakes.

Today i did about 100 miles mainly on B roads cross country through Kent/Sussex and i don't think i went above 3k at any time, cruised mainly around 1600 - 2000 without effort or any strain.

one short M23 part but that was less than 2.5k and maybe up to 3k as i went through the gears to get up to speed.

torque not revs seems to be the way Smile BM52
