A backup job could not find a USB drive (because it was changed) and backed up to the root. this used 4gb of the OS filesystem and caused the OS to become unstable.

Lessons Learned: Set up your backup jobs carefully, test they back up to where they are supposed to and obviously, test backups from time to tim.

if you are familiar with these units, there is a drop down for the destination of the backup, if there are any changes to the USB drive and it it part of a backup routine, the backup job defaults to the first item in the drop down and some how it turns out to the the "root/" Embarassed

10/10 for Netgear support Thumbs Up

anyone who is interested:

I installed WINSCP today and the enableSSH and I can now manage the filesystem and OS on the unit ... no more support calls to Netgear and its easier than UNIX/Linux Thumbs Up

oi!

SCP/SSH is linux and been ported to work on MS Mr. Green

Check out a MSHome server, it will backup all your home puters/laptops auto and gives you remote access, sharing and stuff.
