I think if you're going to have a harley, it's the new night rod. I saw a girl riding one of these on boxing day - long swishy blonde hair, long legs, size 10. Perfection.

The blonde would have improved it's looks Laughing The headlight pod kills it alone for me!

Not keen on the V Rods, I like the classic bike style, I saw a replica Indian but it never looks right with modern black grips etc. A simple custom soft tail style with that lovely thumping engine Very Happy

I happen to know a young lady that rides one of those. Long swishy blonde hair OK........but I don't think she's a size 10. She's a bit more "chunky but funky" Gets about on it too, all over Europe.

I've had five Harleys, a 1200 Sportster, a 1450 Lowrider, a Springer Softail, A SuperGlide FXD35 and an ElectraGlide 96cu. All great bikes, no trouble, many miles. Loads of people take the pi55 out of Harleys but I had some excellent times at rallies all over the place, met some fantastic people and enjoyed every mile.
I did the advanced course at Harley's Riders Edge school in Builith Wells where all the instructors are ex-police bikers. Trying to keep up with those guys around the Welsh mountain roads on full-dress 'Glides was certainly fun, as was riding around 5 metre circles of cones at walking pace on a bike weighing around 360 kilos.

Get yourself a FatBoy. They're VERY pricey new now but there are many low-miles examples around if you take the time to look.

Don't ever buy a Springer though, leading link forks + British roads = Shocked A bit like trying to hold onto, and run behind, an eighty miles an hour garden rotorvator.

Nice Ducatti Small Clanger bit if a change from a heavyweight Harley Shocked

No I don't fancy a Springer as you say, the Surrey roads aren't up to it. It's all 50 mph max from Reigate via Box hill to Guildford. Ive never been into these uncomforatable sports bikes where your heels are stuck up your ass. One hour on those tearing around is enough. OK as track bikes though Twisted Evil

Whilst I had the 'Glide I bought a BMW F650GS as a winter bike but that did'nt have much grunt so I bought another BMW, an R1200S (see gallery, the yellow thing) which was BM's idea of a sports bike. Another great bike, 10 or 11 hour days riding up through the Borders into Southern Scotland and back through Cumbria. An ideal bike for fast cross-country A-road stuff. The exchange rate went mad in '09 so the 'Glide was sold and went to Germany. Made a few bob there.

So I took an R1200GS out for a days test. Went back after only 20 minutes and ordered one. Had an '09 and then the '10 DOHC version and covered about 24,000 miles on them. Superb, but last summer I decided to try something smaller, lighter and agile-er. Hence the Ducati, as the only other bike on my very short list was a Triumph Daytona 675r and too small for me at 6'5".
The Sun's shining and I'm in two minds whether to get the Ducati out for a blast this afternoon. Maybe not...........Fri 13th and all that.

Replaced my BMW S1000RR with the Defender as the toy to play with Smile , still got an RT1200 dohc for the touring bit and a KTM450 for muddy bits.

As to Harleys....well we hired 2 ( the wife rides bikes too) and cruised down Route A1 in the States beside the ocean. Superb.

Over here, not so certain they suit the climate. But if you've a Defender then you'll be used to the similar levels of build quality and finish Smile

As for Zag on one, nasty image of a bloke in 'chaps' comes to mind...
