Is it just my imagination or is the turning circle on the 07MY Defender slightly better than previous models (110 that is)?
Given that I don't plan to put any wider tyres on my 110, what's a safe and acceptable number of stop-bolt turns to tighten the turning circle a wee bit more? It would be nice to be able to throw a U-turn on a dual carriageway from the inside lane ![]() 1970 Alfa Romeo 1750GTV |

if you do adjust your steering lock you will increase the risk of breaking a cv joint if doing something silly, tc doesn't help either.
although, it does get you a free range rover when broke...... think i'm going to see if mine will go past 90 degrees ![]() |

I tackled LR over this subject, and I was told that the steering lock is terrible and was purposely made like that as earlier models (early 2007 ones) where problematic and owners were loosing control of them, by oversteering I presume?
I find this hard to believe but that was the dealers opinion. Thought it might be of interest. Having said that I have a new 110 DC, and have now got used to the dreadful lock - though it is a pain.... |

Had a 110 xs station wagon the other day as a hire car......still waiting on the DC. Found the turning circle very bad, worse i would say than an old 200tdi 110. Im sure there is a way to improve this. AndrewS how much did your 'tinkering' improve the lock?

Hi,DAZ 110 here again.
I am thinking of 30mm wheel spacers to help with the steering lock problem. They should allow me to adjust the steering stop bolts further and so improve the lock! ![]() DAZ 110 |

I have 30mm alloy spacers on my 07 90, turns on a sixpence (well not literally) and also improves the handling when throwing it around

The steering stop bolts, I take it these are the large bolts on the stone guard? Could do with a tweak to improve the turning circle on the 90

Only just joined, so catching up with all the useful stuff - i do recognise most of what I'm reading, though!!!
My old TD5 110 and my new Tdci 110 were/are equally bad in terms of lock. I had a couple of RR Classics before going back to Land Rovers (been driving LR products with rigid axles and ladder chassis for too many years to change now ![]() 1965 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce Sprint 1980 Fiat 124 Spider 2008 110xs |
