Battery Charger / Conditioner
My Puma has been locked in the garage now for almost 4 weeks without being started.

As this may be a regular occurence I thought I would buy a battery charger/conditioner. I already have a trickle charger/conditioner for the motorbike, but it's way too small for this job.

So... Choices:

CTEK Multi XS 3600 http://www.battery-conditioners.co.uk/prod...600_68.htm
Optimate 6 http://www.optimate.co.uk/optimate%206.htm
Sterling Power Global Smart Charger http://www.sp-shop.co.uk/Sterling-Power-Po...arger.html

Prices are similar, with the CTEK & Sterling Power offering best value (Optimate is more expensive) as far as I can see.

My brother-in-law has the Optimate on his summer car (Alfa), and has a lead permanently connected to the battery terminals with a socket on the end which he can easily/quickly connect...I like that idea for leaving a "umbilical" from the battery without having to remove the passenger seat base (and connect crocodile clips) all the time... Also want to "trickle" rather than charge...hopefully no need to disconnect the battery from the car whilst charging...just plug-in the charger to it's umbilical...

Anyone care to offer some knowledgable advice please? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

I have the ctek 3600 unit and if you find the right retail kit, it comes with croc clips and lead, permanent screw into your battery terminal leads and a cig, lighter plug and lead.

I use the cig lighter lead into the aux power in the rear of the truck. As you know there is a purple behind the speaker on the o/s, this is a permanent live.

The unit has normal and icey mode (and a few others), works a treat. Thumbs Up

cTek are good chargers we use the cTek 7000, and stock the smaller cTek 3600, (can do you a forum discount from that linked price Whistle )

With the cTek charger you can get the Comfort/indicator/panel/connector With that panel mounted on front or side of battery box or cubby box and connect to your battery via eyelets.. Will give an indication of battery state of charge. Want to charge battery? Just plug charger straight into comfort panel.

If you did not want to cut hole in battery box, remove battery box lid, attach eyelets and zip tie connector to something suitable

if you have tow sockets charge it via them, saves having to open up the battery box.

I have had an Optimate that has been connected to my motorcycle for 14 years. During that time my motorcycle has only had a single battery replacement. The Optimate is the same one I purchased in 1997 and my bike starts each and every push of the button.

From my own personal experience I could not sing the praises of Optimate enough! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

well, i have, well in fact I haven't!, recond 4 batteries with my CTEK mxs 7 over the last few days. 2 are my Numax deep cycle batteries i wish to use in my 110. The other 2 are an old td5 90 battery which has sat in my unit since march time flat and the battery from my D1 V8 thats been sat since the mot was done in nov and again is flat.

Great bit of kit, it has many settings but i was interested in the recond mode as it restores old batteries. The numax recond with ease, the td5 battery was flat but has recond, the CTEK tells you if it can't TAKE or HOLD a charge. The D1 came up as duff within a few mins.

So i DON@t have to buy a battery for the D1 as the td5 one will do and the numax are in tip top condition ready for my 110
