It would be a Ford (Focus/Mondeo/Fiesta) for me....
My local Land Rover Indie swears they are the best car to run and abuse... His view: 1. Take a Focus to Kwik-Fit for an exhaust/brake pads/brake disks... they will be in stock, the cheapest on the shelf, and fitted in a jiffy leaving you with a cheap bill and on the road faster than anything else... 2. Take a Peugeot/Lexus etc to Kwik-Fit. Mechanic looks, sucks his teeth, says the exhaust is special order, wait for it to come into stock, revisit kwik-fit once the part comes into stock, get a bill treble the size... My pal has a Lexus hybrid, the disks, pads (rear axle only) and at the same time the rear regerative stuff... £1750 !!!!!!!!! (Main Stealer) It's not even done 60k miles, and only about 5 years old...GULP Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

We're just about to sell MrsK's Mini. It's a (July...so late 06 plate...almost a 56 plate) 2006 Cooper. 30,600 miles, very tidy. FSH (we bought it with a 5-year main dealer service contract), and lots of extras (Pepper Pack, Visibility Pack, factory Sun Roof etc). One owner (MrsK) from new. It's pepper-white (the most sought-after colour for Minis). We usually average just over 40 mpg (MrsK's daily commute is about 6 miles each way on Edinburgh by-pass), but regularly 44 mpg. Longer runs are done in the Volvo or the Defender but I guess 50 mpg would be likely on a longer run. Her new Evoque is built (and now at the dealers) and we collect it on 1st March (12 plate), so Mini has to go in the next 6-8 weeks. Prices on Ebay or Autotrader vary from £5995 to £8500. So £6k is our target price (i.e. lower end of the scale for a speedy sale). Not advertised anywhere else (yet)...so available soon..PM me if interested... i have an A3 audi, the 170bhp dsg. If you dont nail it you get 50 mpg. If the urge takes you there aint much that can keep up.
Like the landys though dont get one without warranty. I had a new mechatronix unit (whatever that is) at 4k miles and service told me it cost them £4k Cracking fun though, basically a rollerscate with seats and a radio. Conversely there are some well cheap ultra mpg eurobox's on £120 a month lease. Pom |
