United Kingdom 2009 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black
Seven Days
Just bought my new 90 SW XS and love it. Never had one before but it just puts a smile on my face as I bounce down the road. Very Happy

Bit of a bummer that its back in the shop 7 days later though. The bolts for the doors are rusty (annoying) and the back makes a ...grinding noise as you drive along. Almost reminiscent of the breaks being on. The dealership has listened to it and descided that while they dont know what it is...it isn't right. Sad

However I suppose I should be happy - its been raining like mad and it doesn't appear to leak ...so far Razz

Congratulations - and welcome!

It could be the rear diff that is making a noise. I guess they'll figure it out though.

Pics ASAP please Thumbs Up One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Thumbs Up Excellent choice of colour. However, your truck looks a bit short to me. Fitting in parking spaces is over rated IMHO Wink Whistle

When the dealership lent me one on a test drive for a weekend I was very surprised that I had difficulty in getting a couple of imature apple trees into it Wink I suppose that should have told me to get a bigger one Razz

Still good fun though Smile

Well.....It would be cleaner there. It was only a couple of hours old! Very Happy

Got it back yesterday, minus the noise and rusty doory bolts. Problem is I'm now driving along imagining noises Rolling Eyes

I think the trick is to not worry until they're so obvious you can't be imagining them - you've got 3 years of warranty.

I used to drive my BMW with my head cocked to one side listening for rattles and uneven engine tones - it used to drive me mad. My view with the Defender is that it'll keep going even if it makes odd noises. At some point, it may become obvious there's a problem (like when it dumped all the power steering fluid over my drive) and then LR assist can sort it. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Yes, don't worry about noises. Remember that there is only 1mm of aluminium between your feet and the road. Even pebbles in your tyre tread make the strangest noises you wouldn't expect. Ignore noises until you know something is wrong. The ECU will let you know anyway.

Mechanical sympathy is always a good thing to have, as well as to remember that the Defender is largely an agricultural machine, in the sense that the mechanical parts are heavy duty as opposed to a small car. Once you learn to ignoree noises the pleasure doubles!

I drove home the other day with a 5 litre plastic can of petrol for the mower on the floor behind the driver's seat. I soon forgot about it and thought that the sloshing sound on breaking was something terribly wrong with my beloved Tank Rolling Eyes Whistle

They creak, rattle and clonk, but they're as tough as boots and you'll love it.

Most importantly of all - don't forget to wave!

Enjoy your Bank Holiday of Land Rovering Thumbs Up

I'm wondering how long it'll take before he prefers a drink over driving his new baby. Not long knowing Murray Laughing
