Lots of Defenders get stolen, so whats the cure?
I know from my Series 3 days and also my RR classic that the early locks were easy to pick, so these cars are pretty vulnerable.

The types of device I have seen involve a locking bar through the steering wheel, a full disc wheel lock (Called the Toad I think) and also the pedal locks.

Are any of them any good though or just a PITA to keep removing and store somewhere in the cabin. (God help you if the Toad flew about the cabin in a crash).

What are people's recommendations? 2016 D4 HSE

Ok, done some Googling into different devices:

1. Stoplock - can be bought form Halfords for £30
2. Disklok - £85 (what I thought was called The Toad)
3. Your own wheel clamp - £100
4. Defender Pedal lock - Paddock £75
5. Alarm systems - £hundreds
6. Trackers £hundreds
7. Immobilisers £100+
8. Security post in front of the car £hundreds

If the intention is to prevent someone stealing your LR in the dead of night for example rather than tracking them down, what's the best way to go and is having a Disklok in your car bouncing about very safe or practical? 2016 D4 HSE

There is no need for a disklok to bounce about. there are plenty of ways to keep them secure.

I lost faith in my disklok after having to spend an hour on a wet cold morning in wales trying to get the damn thing off. I rang disklok when I got back and they immediately switched the barrel for me. two goes later, it wont come off again. I cant afford for that to happen so I ditched it.

I guess it's all about whether you want a deterrent for an opportunist, or something more. Any professional thief will beat any security you can use anyway, so for me its a matter of what the purpose of the security is as opposed to how "strong" it is. I like the idea of a removable steering wheel but lets face it, you're not going to take it into a restaurant with you.

I still think a good after-market immobiliser system is hard to beat, they can still tow it away though so a Tracker would be the best but recovery needs to be quick as most seem to get stolen and quickly stripped for parts. Andy

Thought I would never hear myself say this but there are already many very useful recent threads on here about different lockeable devices and how long it takes to break into them, the pros and cons of different trackers, Sky Tag, etching, Data-Tag, Smart Water etc etc. Definitely worth a dig around Thumbs Up

I just happen to read this on ExPo...

Move to Wyoming..

"People are friendly here and like minded for the most part. We have the great outdoors and every activity you could imagine outdoors within 5mins of our houses. The only thing we really lack is some good 4wd trails. Gun laws pretty much do not exist here. We have next to no crime. In the 15yrs I have lived here I have never locked my car or my house. I don't even own a key to the house I live in now! Everybody has a gun, or several so maybe that helps. We also have great schools here and it is an excellent place to raise kids"

RRUK,

Looking at your somewhat comprehensive list on your signature box and the fact they are annotated as “*Gone“ does that mean that they were all stolen then? Signed 'Suitably Impressed.' Rolling with laughter If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
