Hi Ade, we've put Mantec carriers on both of the TD5s and they've been excellent.

When I had the Puma the standard door mount seemed a lot stronger than the two piece door mount. John

I saw the ad on ebay but it states that it can be used on a 90 with minor modifications. Can you tell what kind of mods needed?

I have since 2 years ago a Kaymar spare wheel carrier installed on my 110. Extremely strong Australian high quality piece of equipment, with advantage that you don't have to drill any holes in the bodywork. Very satisfied with it, only negative is that in two places some paint came off, but you can easily quickly correct that.
Mind you, this spare wheel carrier opens independent from the back door, so you have to agree to live with "double handling", but in practice that has proven to be a minor inconvenience only, in lieu you get absolutely top quality.
Rgds, Eric

If interested see following link: http://www.kaymar.com.au/vehicles/landrover/defender.php You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Hi Sven
The mod to a 90 is the left hand mud flap needs cutting to fit around the bracket that the swing away latches too Thumbs Up or no mod if you don't have mud flaps Thumbs Up

There are several makes of swingaway wheel carriers, including
Safari Equip, Mantec, Sonic/Alisport, Kaymar etc.

The Kaymar ones are distributed in Europe via Outback/Import. PLEASE be aware when I tried to visit that site I got a major MALWARE/VIRUS WARNING so be careful.

The cost of the Kaymar ones in the UK used to be £700+ back in 08!

BigRuss and I fitted a Safari Equip one a few weeks ago, very well made and no body mods required.

I have a Kaymar one. It is quite robust and stood up to the corregations. Depends what kind of use its going to get, gentle green lanes or expedition. Company puts cheap Chinese HID spot lights on the Tojos we drive at work, they just fall to bits, or fracture part of the genuine bar work away. Thumbs Up

Does anyone know where I can get one of these now? Have a new rear door and don't want to go drilling it! We're not stuck...just enjoying the scenery!
