Back in September my 2008 SVX went to the local LR dealer in Geneva (Autobritt) for the 3rd annual maintenance. I had run up a total of about 53.000 km by then.
When I got the car back and checked if they had properly filled out and stamped the car's Service Portfolio, I noticed that they performed maintenance type A, but did NOT tick the box for having drained the engine coolant fluid and replaced it with new. The issue is that the Service Portfolio of my SVX clearly states that for the Defender the time to change the engine coolant fluid is: Quote ""every 60.000km/36.000mi or every 3 years, whichever occurs earlier"" Unquote. When I questioned Autobritt about this, they were surprised, and in the end produced an in house document of LR Switzerland to all Swiss LR dealers as guideline for timing of the engine coolant fluid change being 200.000km or 125.000mi. That is what you call a world of difference..... I also asked LR Switzerland by e-mail about this, and they sent me a copy of their inhouse maintenance schedule which indeed confirms the coolant change as every 200.000 km, and they said Autobritt has done everything as required. When I asked them why the car's Service Manual says every 60.000 km they had no real answer.... What do I make of this? Is this in line with the U.K. recommended maintenance schedule, and if it is, is 200.000 km not terribly long to leave the coolant fluid in the Puma? Or is LR Switzerland cutting corners and should I insist on them performing everything which is in my car's Service Manual. Looking forward to hear. Tks, Eric You never actually own a Defender. Land Rover UK and Land Rover CH should all tell the same story... one for Philippe or customer services UK?
question though ... would the chemical properties of the fluid would change over time in a sealed system? |

That is basically what I am concerned about. I understand that coolant fluid has all kind of additives, not only anti-freeze, but also anti-corrosion additives, etc. I have a hard time believing that the coolant fluid does not seriously degenerate and looses its full anbti-corrosion capacity until 200.000 km !!! For many of us that means 10 years or so. Still, the point remains that the Service Manual which came with my car clearly states that the coolant fluid has to be changed at the earlier of every 3 years or every 60.000 km..... Is that the case with your car's service manuals too? And if so, will you ask LR to change this coolant fluid accordingly, or will you buy their argument that it should only be done every 200.000 km???? Tks for checking and letting me know. Look at https://www.defender2.net/gallery/albums/u...heet~1.pdf
If your manual/service book says 60kkm, then I guess it is like that. Is the coolant sort of orangle colour? Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

Did mine in September at 2 years old. And yes the Texaco coolant is orange.

Tks MK, that 200k kmt interval for changing the coolant is exactly the same schedule which LR Switzerland e-mailed me when I questioned them about it. So it looks like there is a misprint in the manual/service book which came with my car, as in there it says every 60k km. I still think that the 200k km interval sounds terribly long though. The real question remains unanswered. Is what LR recommends good enough, or is it better to change the coolant faster, like every 2 or 3 years as some seem to be doing? Or would that be complete overkill? Opinions? As to the coolant colour will check tomorrow. Rgds, Eric You never actually own a Defender. There is more to it than removing the radiator bleed screw RD.

Mine is 4 years old and 60kkm. I plan to change it in the next weeks. If I would live in a much hotter place I probably change it every 30kkm. Puma 110" SW
