UK landmiles, original engine no repair on it, original gear, one set of wheel bearings, two fans, two headlight switches, three cubby boxes (dont know what we are doing with em, but they tend to disassemble off roads) - nothing else. And yes, it is a commercial vehicle and runs almost always 6 days a week with changing drivers. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

provided use only branded diesel..... why would that be? LR have been saying that the Puma 2.4 engine has been designed to be able to run without a problem on all kinds of diesel, including less good quality ones which exist mostly in less developed countries. I presume that in W-Europe all diesel quality, including that from the supermarket gas stations will be good enough for this engine, yes? In any case, I have done 55k KM sofar with my 2008, and 90% of that on supermarket gas stations diesel, but must admit that is mostly France and Switzerland, so I presume good quality in the first place. Still, I thought that our Pumas were able to accept lesser quality without problems, provided regular maintenance, fuel filter changes, etc. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw Last edited by ericvv on 13th May 2014 8:37am. Before they started putting food into diesel in the EU it was quite alright, but nowadays the regular diesel quality is not far from something you get in the middle of africa. I changed 100% to bio-free old fashioned diesel (most of the times Aral Ultimate) and now the One is much quieter and smoother. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

Mine almost done 24000 miles with no major problem. Recently replaced the rear diff oil seal and that was it. Im using normal deisel (not the good quality ones as europe though) so i add few ml of soltron each time i pump to make sure to run the engine smoothly.

In Jan 2011 it was 200k miles = 320k km, and it is a Duracall bunny, now on 450k km = 280k miles, still running smooth w/o any major trouble. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

We see a lot of 2.2 pumas in ducatos, so far the only failures we have had in 150,000 mile and higher bracket are due to poor servicing kills the turbo.
If you don`t get that injector knock or harsh diesel noise looked into you end up with a cracked piston followed by a nackared block Some 2.4 dura torq`s suffered with cracking camshaft housings (mostly in transits) and there`s always the timming chain rattle from cold to listen out for. But apart from that, if you look after your car it will look after you...... Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |

150k miles on my 2007 2.4 sofar without any significant problems, still on orginal engine, gearbox and t-box.
Will be getting (another) new clutch as soon as I get the time, also a new t-box due to backlash. Turbo is whining a bit now and possibly could do with replacing. The only engine components I remember replacing are the vac pump (usual opil leak) and the water pump (gland leaking). |
