i have a 3000w inverter from maplins we had in our works van. Bit big but will run just about anything 240v i've put on it. microwave the lot.

also to big leisure batteries that run it.

Can sell if anyones interested?

Personally I would spend the (same or less) money on a range of 12V chargers and go without an inverter. Inverters are very power inefficient and the cheap ones put seriously nasty harmonics into your eletrical devices. Inverters may only be 50% efficient if you use a big inverter for small power needs - e.g for charging your camera battery. And then your equipment takes the 240V and converts is back down to 5 or 12V for (many of) the electrical circuits with more inefficiency

I bought a whole load of 12V chargers for camera, phones, laptop, GPS etc for less than £100 and I can use all of them at once and in other cars too. I can leave them charging overnight in silence. Inverters can also be a good source of RF noise too. Increasingly, small devices are using USB based charging which can be used across a whole load of devices - my lap top for example recharges my phone, video camera, etc

If you plan to take a fridge then the overland models often have 12V and 240V inputs if you plan to take it into the hotel room or to hook up

If you're thinking of heating then 12V and/or diesel based heaters are available

Also if you get 12V wet it won't give you a 'kick' like 240V will. If your inverter goes down (I think they are pretty reliable though) then you will lose all your electrical devices.

Fires under truck: my Coleman dual burner will do just fine, or get some diesel additive
