If so, where does it start?................
From previous fora I've noticed that when site activity needs a kick start, people turn to such topics. I'm not suggesting we've reached that point, but does anyone have an opinion on this? Also, does it matter that southeners are poofs - are we not a broad church afterall? This is border country and the Romans built a wall for a reason! |

'The North' has pretty much been considered separate to 'The South' for 2000 years! The Romans had northern outposts, then there was the Danelaw, and pretty much from then on the English kings and southern nobility saw the North as a wild and untameable wilderness, populated by rebellious barbarians!
From a historical point of view, 'the North' can be loosely defined by the anything north of the River Trent..... These days the North - South divide is still something more thing perceived by those in the south who talk about such things as standards of living and poverty. The south sees the north as poorer and less attractive, yet from our perspective lower house prices, fewer motorways and major airports, more room and 4 fantastic National Parks, the north is the far far better option and our standards of living are just fine, ta very much. I meet many people from all over the UK (and from around the world for that matter) in my job and the one common thing that people from the south tell me is that northerners are much friendlier than people down south and that the countryside is better and more interesting! |

Up north is Carlisle. Down south is Barrow. Out east is Penrith. Anything else is just made up.
