These do a big brake conversion with big discs and calipers though they are not cheap.

Unless your defender is far from standard and your on a race track, personally i would make sure what you have is working as well as it should if you feel the brakes are no good on your defender. If your happy it all works as it should then try some green stuff pads before you spend mega money on new callipers and discs.

I'm [almost] with Pete
EBC pads all round .. and for that little 'extra' bite, a set of slotted/drilled discs on the front. Stops on a sixpence for not much outlay Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Do slotted and drilled discs make much difference? I thought they just cooled the discs better so you didnt get brake fade because of the temps built up when you keep really hammering the brakes? So unless you live on top of a mountain and go down it with a big trailer at high speed or go round a race track will you notice any difference?
I know one thing for sure, drilled and slotted discs are no good if you do much off roading as they fill up with stones and mud much easier. Pete. |

Genuine land rover discs and pads are very much up to the job. If you have them, but you suffer brake fade, then maybe uprated discs would be the logical progression. We sell DBA brakes as a standard upgrade, and they are very good. Not much better for stopping power, but better at resisting fade under prolonged heavy braking.
For the next step, we have AP Racing 4 pot front calipers, that work with the DBA discs, and use much bigger and better pads. Then at the top, we have AP Racing 6 pot front calipers, with 360mm two piece discs, and a range of pad materials available. This conversion will only fit under 18" or larger wheels. An AP Racing upgrade to 4 pot rear calipers is also available, although it is possible to adapt the front original calipers to fit on the rear. Anyone who says that EBC brakes give higher braking force than the genuine land rover setup, is talking nonsense! Most people replace brakes because they are worn. It is inevitable there will be an improvement over the worn brakes, but no original fitment brake parts work as well as the genuine ones. Last edited by Alive Tuning on 22nd Dec 2011 8:03am. Thanks for the advice guys. Iv'e only just got the 110 about 3-4 weeks ago and i guess i feel as though the brakes could be a little better. I have started noticing that there is a screatching noise coming from the front brakes when slowing down at 20 mph and lasting until a stand still. In my recent experience this means that the brake pads need changed and possible the disks. I'll need to pop everything off before i make any assumptions ...
Do love those APR 6 Pots, but just alot more than i want to spend if the Genuine LR brakes are very much up to the job... Plus id rather spend that money on a new DRL bumper and Tuning from Alive anyways |
