My Grandfather used to own SAABs, he wouldnt buy any other brand. I remember perhaps in the 1970's when I was a kid he bought a brand new 'R' reg SAAB 99 in an orangy bronze colour. I thought it was fantastic, espacially the ignition being next to the handbrake. Sadly he never took any photos of it so I dont know its reg number, but Id love to track it down if it still exists.

Sadly for me he never bought a 900 (my favourite SAAB), but jumped instead for a brand new 'D' plate 9000. When he passed away my sister aquired it and still had it until a couple of years ago. I saw it as quite a bland looking car, compared to the 99. But great cars Thumbs Up

My sister replaced it with another 9000. Owners tend to stay loyal to SAAB dont they.

Sad really they dared to be different when they were independent.

My first car was a SAAB 96 - with the V4 1.5ltr Ford engine.

I used and abused the poor thing for nearly 5 years before it finally gave up, which I am certain your average Leyland car of they day would never have done!

I bought a brand new 900 in 1996 from a SAAB dealer in Burnham Berks which apparently was the first ever Saab dealer in the UK. A black coupe with BBS alloys it was and although underneath it was a Cavalier it was so comfortable with a great interior. I had it for 2 years and traded it in for a Mazda Xedos !
