l believe the proposed smaller Defender, which was going to be all electric, has been put on hold due to the poor take up of electric vehicles.
l am sure we will eventually get it though. |

Personally, I think any major facelift or design change could hurt the Defender Octaโs sales. JLR would be better off keeping the Defender in line with the G-Wagon approach, a timeless, instantly recognizable design with subtle updates that enhance functionality and visual appeal, rather than drastic overhauls!
It feels like the new Defender might be taking on a similar role to the Evoque within the Range Rover lineup.. a more compact, stylish version thatโs possibly aimed at younger buyers or a broader market. That said, Iโm curious how this direction might affect sales of the 90 Series going forward.. |

2026MY will be the same as it is currently with only minor things like equipment color/trim, and trim level changes. JLR themselves have stated that the L663 will have a longer lifespan than the traditional 8-10 year product cycle for the rest of their lineup. ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar)

Will they add a longer hybrid range model to the range like other JLR products?
60 to 100 miles would be very useful on 90% of most people journeys I would think? |

Unlikely, as the new PHEV system is optimized for the MLA-Flex platform vehicles. Defender is D7 platform. MLA-Flex has the batteries in the floor, while the D7 is in the trunk below the floor, which eats into your cargo space.
While MLA-Flex is technically a highly-revised version of D7, it would require a lot of changes that probably just aren't worth the cost. I don't see that coming anytime soon for the Defender. Having driven a new RRS with that powertrain, I can say it is probably the best all-rounder, but if I bought a RR or RRS, the P400 I6 would be the best for my use case. Can't stand that N63 V8 from BMW. ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar) ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ง ๐ (Dolomite Silver over Black/Bordeaux Red) ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐ (Aintree Green over Vintage Tan/Ebony) - Gone ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐.๐ (Ipanema Sand over Almond/Arabica) - Gone |
