It’s a very common fault, need to replace the park switch which is clipped to the outside of the wiper motor.
Can be done on a rhd vehicle by removing the cover on the left hand end of the dashboard. I guess you may have to take the instrument binacle out on a LHD vehicle. |

True, almost certainly a park switch failure.
On a TD5 maybe but not a Puma. On a Puma you'll have to do a fair bit more since you need to pull the n/s of the dash far enough back from the bulkhead to get to the motor. There are several "how to" threads on the forum, for example: https://www.defender2.net/forum/post1034839.html https://www.defender2.net/forum/post68216.html#68216 |

I’ll just chip in with my “other” potential fault - though perhaps someone can advise if this applies to the Puma era vehicles.
On earlier cars the spindle on the wiper drive gear is held in the correct place by a ‘c’ clip. If the clip breaks or disappears, the drive gear can float in/out and this stops it engaging properly with the park switch. I think this does tend to generate a more random pattern though, so if your fault is predictable and constant that might indeed point to the park switch. However if you’re “in there” do check that the circlip is where it should be.
