Hi all,
before I commit to having to make one, does anyone know the whereabouts of one of these? Or even an aftermarket option or someone that has DIY'd a similar solution? Landrover sell them with Warn M8000s as a kit under part number RTC 8965 but they're £1300 and they wont sell the mounting plate seperately So, thoughts? (I know this is effectively a wanted ad but I thought it might generate more interest and tech input here) Ross The Scotia Winch Challenge |

I had one fitted to my 110 when I bought it.
It is simpily a tray that fits between the chassis rails, bolting through some existing holes. I am sure you will be able to fab/have fabbed something similar. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

Glyn,
The free spool is accessable with the LR Kit, the M8000 is mounted so the feet face the front of the vehicle rather than down to the ground. You can also see the drum between the rad & bumper, even with air-con 2002 Defender 110 DC |

Ross have you had a few words with Uncle Ray or RLD?
I know he does discrete winch bumpers for D3. I do not know if he does one for a Defender, but it must be worth a pm/phone call There is no problem buying winch mounting plates. 2" receiver and winch mounting plate systems are also available. On front of red 110 we have a Devon winch bumper. If we fabricated a different number plate holding system it would hide the fairlead etc so would be reasonably discrete Click image to enlarge Brendan Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

I couldnt find anybody who sold one that fitted my requirements, so I designed one myself. Not a cheap option though. It looks exactly the same as a standard bumper, only its 6mm thick! It mounts directly to the chassis leg ends (4 bolts) but also extends far back to the forward chassis crossmember. It bolts through the crossmember onto a spreader plate beneath the intercooler. Standard plastic end caps are fitted too. The fairlead and hook are covered by a c section length of steel which is held to the bumper by quick release pins. This cover has my nmber plate on it too. The result is a neat installation, which is recessed wuite far back into the vehicle and is very very strong. All this and it still retains the factory look. A black neoprene cover over the winch and you hardly notice its there....plus, its galvanised and powder coated.
Ill try to take a couple of photos tomorrow and post if youre interested... All in all this option cost around £750 and took a lot of time to make some drawings and make all the necessary measurements, but im happy with the result! |

Likewise... photos please. Been looking for a solution to keep the factory look but still have a powerful winch to hand that isn't too difficult to access for use.

This is mine: home build but not really discrete.

Not the best pic, but here's what I came up with in the end. Winch mounts feet first. Very strong, 5 bolts through the front x-member and it's also pulling through the 4 bumper bolts.
