Repainting
Looking to repaint my 110 dual cab.

I don’t want to do a full disassembly, but want to change the color.

I’ve got some rust to fix and both wing panels to replace so going to take the opportunity to get it done.

Have any of you gone this route with a repainting but not doing the full disassembly approach?

How did it turn out?

What was the cost?

What would you do differently?

Thx!

Are you asking for materials cost to diy?
Or materials and machinery costs to diy?
Or cost to get someone else to do the job?

The problem you will find with the third option is that "most" people in the refinishing trade like to produce a nice finish, and a nice finish requires hours and hours burnt on prep.

You may want to do the prep yourself but it probably won't match what they would like, and it won't give the finish they would like.

What I'm saying is it won't be easy to find a "quick" job (which I think is what you are asking for?)

If you have somewhere to do the job (I'm not talking a proper booth but just someone sensible) -

Maybe £300 on a couple of compressors
Maybe £300-350 on breathing kit / regulators.
100 on a decent ROS
Another £100 on bits I've forgotten (I generally underestimate costs!)

Probably £400 or so on paints, maybe? Probably 500. Epoxy, high build, and a single stage 2k top. Maybe 600, as there are so many different potions to buy before you can do the whole thing.

So maybe 1.5k ish if you are starting from scratch. But this is without a booth.

You could keep or recoup some of the cost by selling equipment after.

I think commercial painters would probably be charging around the same figure (probably a bit more), and, if they're half decent, would produce a better finish.

Note - I don't paint cars (beyond my own) but paint (alloy) is part of my work.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm simply looking to paint the exterior up to the door line to the sill.

I don't want to paint the interior as I've got internal trim kits to cover all of the original color.

I'm curious if anyone has gone this route, costs and anything I should be mindful of when taking to the shop.

I don't plan on doing this myself.

You could use raptor paint.

Use a roller to apply. Make sure you use good ones or you will have trouble.

You can get it tinted to match your paint.

For what you want it will take two bottles.

You will have a distinct change of texture but that can be a feature.

Raptor covers up lots of imperfections.

Upon clear primer for all surfaces is excellent and saves a lot of masking.

Preparation is key.

What about getting it wrapped instead? I've never wrapped a car but some folk appear to do it on a fairly regular basis?
