[For Sale] Safety Devices internal roll cage 110sw - 2007 on
Hi folks,

As the title says, this is a Safety Devices internal roll cage for a 110 Station Wagon. I'll call it 'used', as it's been fitted to my car - but not used in the sense that I managed not to roll or crash the car during that time!!

I can't get the Safety Devices website shop to work for me at the moment, but I think it's RBL2557SSS, which means vehicles from 2007 onwards, though I can say with confidence that it fits in older vehicles too.

This is designed for the later style of larger 'high top' 2nd row seats - by comparison to those fitted to my 1994 Tdi-era vehicle.

I still have one fitted, but I swapped to the 'older' style one as I was fitting gull wing windows, and was confident this would give me greater clearance.

Even if you don't plan to roll the car (!) but have roof loads such as a roof tent etc, I think this cage helps to make the overall structure more rigid by supporting the B pillars. Also makes the car a better place for any second row seat passengers.

These look like being about £1200 new. I'm after £700. One consideration is that I'm up near Inverness and this is a large and awkward item.

Probably a bit far to be practical for me, but do you mind me asking what the differences are that gave you more space? Tempted to get a rear half cage for baby seat purposes (or the front external rear internal), But I have front row seats in my second row, and also hoping to fit gullwings eventually!

The pre-2007 and 2007-on cages are different shapes, see below. Note that the clearance between the rear hoop and the side window differs.

Up to 2007 (low back "neck-breaker" seats):

2007 on (high back "neck-saver" seats):

Hi Miker, thanks for your interest. Blackwolf - thanks for the pics!

I logged on to say that I could post pictures of the difference, but that I'd need to wait till this evening - and I find it's already been done! Excellent!

As Blackwolf says, the difference is that on this "2007 on" cage, the rear-most hoop flares out towards the side windows, to allow clearance for the wider/taller seats.

When I started researching gull wings (FrontRunner) I got to the point of being about 90% confident that the cage and windows wouldn't clash. If I'd had more time I'd have got the windows and fitted them with this cage. If something else needed changed, I'd have the time to do it. However I was under a lot of pressure overall at that point, so I decided to go for the option I knew would work.

Surrey is a bit far isn't it...! I've noticed some new advertising locally for a 'man with a van' service. I'll see if I can get a price for shipping, if not for yourself, then for anyone else who might be interested.

I'm pretty sure I could get it as far as the Glasgow area at some point in the next month or so if that makes any difference. Donald

Hi Miker,

Well, this has taken longer than I'd hoped for various reasons, but I managed to get things weighed and measured today.

I'll do this in four bits:
The front hoop is 16kg (130x155cm)
The rear hoop is 9kg (95 X 160cm)
The 4 side bars (linking the hoops, 2 on each side) are a total of 8kg ( 80x?cm)
The fixings + seatbelt reel boxes are 8kg - small-ish box.

So it's a total of 41kg minus any packaging material.

I think this would likely be best done as a consignment of three packages.

I reckon I could put two of the side bars onto each main hoop, giving weights of 20kg and 13kg, then just the box of fixings.

I think, if I put all of the bars together it would be a total of 33kg and probably too heavy for most of the couriers.

So (if that makes sense) this gives:
1 parcel (a large 'flat C' shape) of 20kg. 160X135cm max.
2nd parcel (another large 'flat c' shape) of 13kg. 95 x 160cm; and
3rd parcel - small (30x20x20cm) box - 8kg - all the fixings etc.

When the new one arrived it was in a mahoosive construction, on top of a modified pallet - and the timber alone must have weighed another 15-20kg or so. I'm fairly sure it could be done as I've described above.

My next step will be to package it up, as above, and get some generic quotes for anyone's interest. A couple of folk have PMd, so I know there's at least some interest, even if being at the opposite end of the country for most people isn't helping. Donald
