If you have a fob that needs to be on your key ring with a good battery in it to start the vehicle then you will have a 10AS alarm unit with an immobiliser funcion enabled. If you don’t have a fob then you won’t have an immobiliser enabled and your engine ECU will not be expecting a de-immobilisation code to be received before it will allow the engine to start.
You can retrofit central locking, there are a fair number of topics on it. If you are getting a third party cat 1 system fitted it will control the actuators and you can get gen ones or after market ones. It’s interesting to note that even the last highest specification defenders that rolled off the production line with immobiliser, central locking, internal movement sensors and a battery backup sounder were only certified as Cat 2. |

Thank you for the guidance back.
Mine has no remote so imagine it has no immobiliser. Also thanks re: central locking I've since found some actuators so will query this with the potential alarm fitter. In this respect sounds quite straightforward alarm install therefore |

If you take the drivers footwell speaker out ( just a few screws) then with your head in the footwell you look up and to the right through the aperture. You can see if a 10AS alam unit is fitted. It’s a 6 inch x 4 inch green plastic box attached to the bulkhead with two loom connectors going to it.
