So the modifications have started.. firstly I’ve fitted a Drawer / Dog box system from Animal Transit Boxes in the rear.
![]() Click image to enlarge I’ve also started cleaning up the chassis and applying dinitrol to the rear wheel arches. Once I order some more I’ll do the rest of the chassis. Whilst I was cleaning things up I decided to order and fit a Gwyn Lewis kit to the rear arches. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Luckily the chassis although rusty in certain places on the surface is actually very good. I think I’ve got there just in time. The 110 has been booked into a local spray shop to have some bits of corrosion sorted on the windscreen frame, as well as a few other areas. This week I’ll also order a full set of door seals and rear door threshold. The NAS step is coming off for blasting and powder coating. Thanks 👍🏻, i must admit I thought the 90 was going to stay forever but when this came along it makes much more sense for a family with 2 kids and 2 dogs. I can’t wait to get it how I want it and on the road! Progress has been fairly slow on the 110 due to work and family commitments but this weekend I did manage to sort something that’s been bugging me!
The aluminium strip beneath the rear door has corroded from behind.. initially I bought a new metal strip from YRM and was going to cut a piece out to repair the the original, however it was the wrong profile for a repair. Thankfully my father in law is a welder and got some pieces of Ali bent at his work and kindly Tig welded it it, along with a few other holes I’d found when cleaning up the metal. The defender is booked in for some paint work at the end of the month, so the repair will be invisible once painted. I’ve also decided to keep the current wheels, mainly due to the fact I can’t find any anthracite Bowler wheels or anthracite sawtooth wheels anywhere! I have however added some wheel spacers which IMO massively improves the look. The 110 was in the spray shop today getting some bits painted.
All the usual areas.. B pillars, Windscreen frame etc.. plus a dent and deep scratch in the wing. Well the 110 has been back together for the past couple of weeks.. I had a local detailer come and give it a full machine polish and ceramic coating after the major work was completed.
We then took it away on a family holiday to Exmoor where it performed faultlessly! This week I managed to buy some TWISTED 16” alloy wheels locally for a good price.
I then had them re-finished in a satin anthracite colour and fitted with my existing BFG AT’s. I’m really pleased with the look because in my opinion it was ‘too black’ before. Yes I’ve seen a few people caught out in Tarr steps over the years.
