How will this road tax increase effect older Defenders? There is this bit here.
"Diesel cars will be stung the hardest, however. The average increase will be £1,113, about double the rise facing petrol drivers" " Tax rates are largely based on how much CO2 fossil-fuel-guzzling cars spew out – higher emission vehicles are placed in higher VED bands. Vehicles manufactured after 2001 don’t have the size taken into account." I just lost the link so I cannot put it up. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

It’s not really affecting cars registered between 2001-2017. Just the annual inflation rate.

Cars registered before 1 March 2001 are classed as Private/Light Goods (PLG) vehicles, or private motor cars or good vehicles not more than 3,500kg revenue weight. The system for cars is split into two categories of engine size – not over 1549cc and over 1549cc. Not over 1549cc 12months £210 6months £115.50 Over 1549cc 12months £345 6months £189.75 |

Only increasing with RPI I believe, so inflation rate.
I think that’s approx 4% ish, happy to be corrected on this I expect somone here knows the exact rate but it does vary. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Yes, that’s prior to 2001, but all will increase by RPI which was 3.6% in Jan.
So there will be an approx 3.2% to 4% increase approx likely, so that equates to approx £3.20 /£ 4 per hundred pounds, so if you were paying £300 PA that would add £12PA. Those that are exempt will be classics, as obviously they are VED exempt anyway. So basically whatever you were paying last year, add about £3.6% to it and that will be the figure. A lot of the scare story figures online are new vehicles with high value, with value supplement etc. These media stories are created by the same sort of idiots that put up headlines such “over 70’s must give up their licenses next year”. And idiotic, discriminatory click bait headlines such as that, there are a lot online. We all know who and what types they are that create these pages, not long ago they were glued to the road. ![]() Buyers of new vehicles, I think if they are buying a brand new high value vehicle, I don’t think they’ll be that bothered about the prices anyway with that. RPI / Retail Price Index applies to Insurance as well. It’s the same rate Jan last year to this year, it really needs to come down, as it puts prices up. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
