2015 Defender 90 - Momo Competition steering wheel
Dear Forum,

Here are a few pictures from this weekend’s project, where I fitted a MOMO Competition steering wheel onto a 2015 model. Unfortunately, the well-machined Optimill Slimboss does not accommodate the Competition bolt pattern, so some manual adjustments were necessary. The end result feels fantastic!

I also took the opportunity to investigate the turn indicator, which had an odd tendency to self-cancel unexpectedly. For those with a post-MY2014 model, I found that centering the pin and applying silicone oil helped resolve the issue.

Best regards,
Christophe

P.S. Steering wheel nut torque: 43Nm

That does look good and you've done a great job of repositioning the holes. Thumbs Up

There are 2 versions of the Slimline Boss, for Momo 70mm PCD or Startech (74mm??)
The boss you had appears to be the Startech version.

I’m assuming as yours is a 2015 Puma you will have DSC. If so hopefully you did not disturb the steering angle sensor, else you will get strange behaviour when turning or/and dash light coming up.

Hi Ianh,

You are correct I have this angle sensor mounted on the frame of the assembly - when performing the drilling I paid attention to have the two grooves as horizontal as possible, similar to the JLR steering wheel. So far it is fine - I still have sometimes turning right a self cancellation but after a few turns all good.

Do you know the aim of this steering wheel sensor - what it is used for ?!

Cheers

The steering angle sensor is part of the Dynamic Stability Control system, first fitted on 2015 MY vehicles. Thumbs Up
