More testing today, replaced the injector loom - no better - Removed CPS, very dirty and plug was also dirty (rear of rocker gasket was leaking straight onto the CPS) unfortunately I broke it getting it out so will have to replace it now. Embarassed
What I have noticed today is that the car only cuts out when the engine is revved fairly hard and if I switch the ignition off and wait after 1-2mins the main relay under the drivers seat clicks and the car can be restarted.
I’m thinking MadTom is right likely an ECU issue, I removed the ECU this evening and opened it, its extremely clean inside, I can’t see anything obvious but I guess I wouldn’t if a component had failed.
I’ll try the new CPS when it arrives and report back, but if anyone has a good ECU for sale please PM me!

Main realy, that power the engine ECU is controlled byt the engine ECU - after ignition off, it takes cca. 10 second to power this relay off. This delay is controlled by the CPU in engine ECU. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

the EML light comes on just as it cuts out, but this could be due to the engine dying as it goes out as normal when the car restarts.

Was it red and did it say on until the ignition turned off?

As far as I'm aware, only the crank position sensor or associated wiring will cause the engine to shut off with the red malfunction light immediately illuminating.

Broken sensor = Replace

Faulty wiring = https://www.empiretuning.co.uk/product/td5...y-harness/

It’s the yellow EML which comes on when it stalls, no sign of the red crossed eml at all, i did notice that the glow plug light doesn’t illuminate when it’s cranking but not starting, if I wait until the main relay clicks the glow plug light does illuminate and it starts, but it might not be connected.

I’m going to replace the CS at the weekend and the plug & section of the loom. If that doesn’t make any difference I’ll get the codes read and send the ECU off.
Does anyone know if a garage quality snap on code reader will read td5 fault codes? I’ve tried my cheap code reader and don’t get anything.

Really hope the CS solves it, the old one was very dirty both on the tip and around the connector/harness so maybe the issue?
I read a post about a very similar fault description which turned out to be the ECU

Was yours cutting out when revved? And restarting fine after a brief wait?

No, mine was crank no start, and briefly cutting out during normal running with the engine light just flashing on for a second or two but not putting me at the side of the road.
Before I swapped the crank sensor I also fitted a new fuel pump relay and main relay the socket of which is a little discoloured from getting hot....
