Regarding the comment about the Marsland chassis, I chose Richards because they were used in a Haynes manual I have about Defender restoration.
Since then I have visited Gumtree, who are a local Landrover specialist, to buy a new bump stop. I got talking to them about chassis and they told me they use Richards too. Also, Brook Street Garage, which does my MOT tests and has supplied me with a lot of parts for my Puma, have started doing chassis swaps recently. They use Richards too. I'm sure that Marsland chassis are fine but they just don't seem to be popular with the people I get to speak to. |

Regarding the exhaust hanger, this may just have been a simple mistake during construction.
It was fitted 3 centimetres to the left when compared to the old chassis. This meant that it missed the cutout in the crossmember so it was tilted at the wrong angle. Removing the hanger with the body in place took some time but the replacement bolt-on hanger supplied by Richards worked well and I have since refitted the exhaust. |

Regarding the suggestion from NickMc about using a plumb bob, I measured from the bolt on the transmission mounting on the right hand side to the rear bolt hole on the engine mount on the same side.
The distance was 82cm on both the old and new chassis. Does this rule out the possibility that this might be a TD5 chassis? |

Nothing wrong with Richards from what I understand. Before I did mine in 2018 I asked the guy I bought the vehicle off and he told me Richards seem to be the best, so that’s what I bought and it was fine ( although I didn’t use the engine mounts as I fitted something else ) 1983 110 automatic OM606 |

I heard from Richards yesterday and they said:
Hi Andrew We have recently found an issue that our gearbox mounts were about 6mm to far back this might be causing the issue you’ve spoken of and later they said: Hi Andrew I’m afraid the only work round would be to file the slot in the gear box mount slightly longer |

Today I supported the rear of the transmission on a stand.
The next step is to remove the transmission mounts i.e. the bolt-on parts between the chassis and the transmission. Then I plan to fit and tighten the engine mounts. After that I can decide on the best way forwards. I may follow Richards' suggestion but once I have had another chance to look at the transmission mounts I may decide on some other course of action. |

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with them I just said that because the box profile is different from his original genuine chassis be wary of measuring like for like as they’re not the same.
I think Richard’s sell more as they have stock, dealers and are cheaper. Glad to hear you got sorted-ish |
