Parts Book Problems
I'm having some trouble deciphering a particular page of the parts book that deals with the M82. I may be looking for the housing between the transmission and the transfer case. On the relevant page the piece is shown twice and has two different part numbers. It's all a bit puzzling. It part numbers 23 and 32 on this page:

Puzzling. I've never heard of the being 2 different adapter housings. One is double the price of the other too. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Interesting! The difference is clearly parts 33 and 34 which only feature in the casing described as "kit - repair", however what these parts do and what they repair is something of a mystery. I am not aware that I've seen an MT82 with these extra parts but they may not be obvious.

All I can suggest is a call to an expert such as Dave Ashcroft, but if you do find an answer please let us know.

Odd, and i can't see any obvious difference but I have read somewhere that the gear change selector was modified at some point and I'm wondering if the casting was changed to accommodate that..

Item 34 in the diagram you linked to has the same function as item 10 here but has a different part number:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/p...and-rover/

The is the part into which the ball at the bottom of the gear lever fits and which is attached to the end of the primary selector shaft. The part in your diagram, which we assume to be the later modified part, is £600 more expensive than the £49 original, so let us hope nobody ever needs one.

I believe that the later part must engage with the nibs on part 33 (in your link) to inhibit the lever movement, part 33 is bolted to the modified housing using two M10x20 bolts (item 35). The difference between the two housings will be the machining needed to allow part 33 to be bolted on.

If you do a Google image search for LR030060 (the original housing) you can see where part 33 fits in some of the photos. Sadly it is no clearer what it does or why it is fitted.

If you are replacing a damaged housing then it should be patently obvious which you have. If you're building a unit from scratch then I would opt for the early type since the price difference is obscene.

only photo I have of the part in question and most probably not a lot of help, only say mine is a late defender and likely to have the modified gear stick linkage..
