Not sure on the transit engine, but can you loosen the engine mounts on the block and get a bit of tolerance that way till it lines up

Yes, you can do that but as you tighten, everything is put under strain and I'm frightened something might break.
If the weather is good tomorrow I will take a photo to show how far out the holes are. |

It may be it just needs a little force applied to line the stud up..
I undid my rh engine mount nut to allow the engine to be jacked on that side to clear the dpf for removal..I'd taken the nut off and needless to say the mounting hole lifted clear of the stud.. not sure what had moved but the hole and stud didn't or wouldn't line up , so a heavy duty cable tie around the stud which is rubber mounted got it to enter the hole and the engine dropped back into place.. If its only 1cm it should be possible to get that..👍 |

I pulled the engine mount on the block forwards using a small rope pulley.
Then I was able to fit the 2 bolts holding the mount to the chassis: Click image to enlarge It's possible that I would have had the same issue in 2016 and 2019 but on those occasions I fitted the bolts holding the engine mount in place before fitting and tightening the bell housing bolts so I did not notice there was a problem. |

Probably sold you a td5 chassis as the mounts look the same but just a slight difference in distance.

This possibility has already been suggested by the garage which does my MOT tests and obtains parts for me.
If this had happened, would the distance between the front chassis cross member and the engine mounts still match the distance on the old chassis? |

If the bolt holes on the chassis were not in the right positions, how could you be sure that the drivetrain matches (e.g. M 82 transmission spline misalignement issues) ? I'd claim for a chassis with perfectly matching fixation points. |

I have compared the chassis mounts for the engine with the same mounts on the old chassis and the positions are the same. Also, the left hand mount fits perfectly. This is why I am puzzled.

is it twisted slightly, have you taken diagonal measurements from your old chassis vs the new one Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

That's a possibility although measuring the new chassis now that the suspension, engine, gearbox, fuel tank and body are in place could be difficult.
I will see what I can do tomorrow when it is light outside. |

Use a plumb Bob and mark the points on the ground then measure is the way around that problem.
Richards chassis aren’t the same shape (profile) as a genuine two piece chassis so be wary of comparing like for like measurements. |

I like the idea of the plumb bob.
It should at least help me to diagnose the problem, even if I cannot fix it. |

I have fitted 5 Richards chassis over the years and they have always been spot on.
So the one you have the engine mounts measure the same from a drum as your old chassis if I understand the posts above? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |
