Surprised this hasn't been mentioned previously š
The BBC has probably recruited these Defenders from a local club? There was a website where you could register your car to be used in TV, I think I read about it on the Series 2 forum? |

As I understand it, the cars were/are actually supplied under contract by a film industry vehicle supplier down near Glasgow somewhere, and then provided/maintained more locally. With the enormous expense of having everything and everyone on location for a āremoteā TV shoot like this, they couldnāt afford to have it done by a club or the like if it caused any kind of schedule delays.
I also believe that they have another daily āspareā immediately available during filming which can be quickly swapped in should something happen to one of the other vehicles, so the ābrokenā car can then be repaired/returned off-line. Iād heard that not all the competitors are exactly familiar with permanent 4wd, or that Land Rovers arenāt really indestructible! This kind-of explains the mis-matched paint between interior and exterior, where other suitable cars needed to be provided in āTraitors blackā - but itās only really geeks like us which will notice! Funnily enough the 110 I bought last year was going to be bought by them for the show until I swooped in and bought it š

I get told off every episode for complaining about the said vehicles, what a set of old dogs tarted up badly to look like late Defenders. One has a matt black sprayed headlining, another a horrible fibreglass badly painted black headlining which is trying to part company as they drive along. I guess Claudia gets the majority of the budget?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking this yesterday while watching it.
One of them is missing a rear mudflap too, which is of course extra irritating to the eye. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |

I'm watching the 3rd series and enjoy it..as I did the 1st and 2nd
I offered them my car, there was a request ages ago on a forum I forget where. Spoke to the guy who was organizing transport etc but in the end decided not to.. They always look good in convoy (just like SAS) almost Bond film like.. It does add to the program for me |

Opening scene at the castle of this yearās episode, and they arrive to park up in-line, with a nose-to-the-ground shot that nicely highlighted the unbelievably rusty set of nuts on one of the front wheels. Even Mrs Grenadier felt the need to comment and she is used to living with my slightly battered truck. Monsieur Le Grenadier
